I dissected a brain today in human biology. That was the highlight I think, separating the spheres and then cutting them open... oooo white matter. lol, myself and my lab partner removed the pituitary gland without realising it was actually the pituitary gland, we just assumed that it was safe to 'get it outta the way' because it was small. When the human bio teacher can around he's like, where's your pituitary gland? ... erm... over there among the excess tissue and minigi membrane.. I think.. lol.
Lol. I think I remembered trying to disect a cow's liver or heart or something. I didn't get it and went outside. Or I just let my 'partner' do all the work. I was too busy spitting spit balls in the corner of the lab with Nadala. They stayed there for about three or four years. Of course I may be exagurating but no less than a year.
nah, it wasn't soo bad that we couldn't stomach it, just nothing particuarly special. once again i spent the day at school. today i had Food and i made an apple crumble which is delisious. it was fun to make with my friend, we have a right laugh when we are cooking. also had Geography where i got evil looks from the teacher as i forgot my homework, and i have to write even more lines in French for forgetting last weeks lines for forgetting my book. lol, headache thats about it anyway.
lol, it's actually quite unexciting. You basically have the two hemispheres and a short fiborous bridge between the two, once that is severed all you see is a ridge of white matter and an ever so tiny gland (the pituitary) hiding underneath some white fatty what not in the central most part. Even when you cut the brain open all there is to show is a faint line of grey matter surrounding white matter. Although so, I do admit the outter brain looks cool, all those knooks and crannies with a network of blood vessels weaved through them. The cerebellum is cool too, appears somewhat like a minibrain that is so delicately attached to the brain. The mini brain was my favourite to investigate. I can't wait until we get to take apart an eyeball! So far I've dissected a cow's heart, a brain, a chicken wing and soon an eyeball (we were once gonna dissect a with-child rat however the school went all ethical on us and said no, we don't do that sort of 'thing' here.. pft we're a non-religious public school, so w/e, lol)
wow I have only dissected a rat and a sheep eyeball. The eye balls was horrible-squirts and is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Today I have the worst anxiety ever! I have to go and get my hearing retested. It has been failing for the last 2 or 3 yrs now and I was supposed to go back every year and that was like 2 yrs ago. So now I am afraid to see how much worse it can get. Not a good day.
Hard luck - one of my ears is shot too - too many gigs when I was younger - paying the price for fun but 5 or 6 later.
Eoz, I would find it fascinating anyway, identifying the medula and other brain structures. Is this a pre-med program? If this is high school, I am in awe. Students and parents raised cuch a stink ofer dissecting frogs that we never even got to do that. I've always been more fascinated than repulsed by watching medical procedures, although smells are one thing that will lay me out.
Today I was frustrated. Today I thought I would have sorted out everything with my apartment so that I could move in 2 weeks from now. As that's not worked out so hot, I'm sitting on my couch watching re-runs of House.
I never liked dissecting things in school. I'd do it but the smell and the cold body I just couldn't stand it. Which is odd considering I've butchered animals after hunting and fishing. Right now I'm simply getting very upset with Yahoo. I haven't been able to check my e-mail since yesterday morning, so I have no new info on my new nephew. I want to hear some news. I'm probably going to be going out and checking out more of Shanghai. Without using a map, I finally found the shopping district. So its gift buying time. I'm finding Shanghai kind of strange. You'll walk along, seeing huge, brand new skyscrapers, and at least half the skyscrapers are still being built. With the newly rich and growing middle class walking around in. And directly across the street will be old derelect apartment buildings, swarming with poor people that still make up the majority of people here. Theres almost no transition between the two extremes, its either rich or poor. And I'm really not used to "Massage Parlour" owners running out of the building to tell you about the great deal they have. But its an interesting place. I can't wait until I'm in Nanjing and actually settled down for more then a week.
my hearing appointment didnt go so well today no big suprise though. It will be my third time going back to the specialist to tell me the same thing....lady you have bad hearing for a 23 yr old. But I went boating today and that was fun. now its off to but the wee one to bed.
Pre med, if only, *sigh*. Actually its just typical year 12 content, we learn about alot of things... quite extensively.. genetics.. human evolution... ecology... scientific theory.. now we're on to a topic called the control systems, we've just started it, whilst somewhat interesting its very extensive. In this topic we're learning all about the brain, its parts and associated functions; nerve cells and their fuctions; the chemistry behind the function of the brain (like how electrical impulses are associated with chemical ions.. like neurotransmitters); we're also doing alot on processes like homeostasis; endocrine and exocrines; mental health and drug affect and dependency. As for my day.. lol... well i'm excited about my school ball which is tomorrow. : D
Sorry you feel sick myst. I know the feeling! And disecting stuff... hmm.. my.. ooooh! Dr Who is on! Brb!
more stupid school today. boringgggggg. i had to spend an extra hour in ICT getting all of my coursework finished as i have one less lesson that we are meant to as i am taking French!! and all of this ihave no option in!! lol
yea, you're right, anything is better than school and i quite like going to the book store, especially Borders.
I can't find a legitimate English bookstore in Shanghai. So instead I'm going to be going bar hopping tonight with other people at the hostel. Is it sad that that I'd rather find a good Chapters or Coles bookstore?
