Need word for an act that unburdens

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by GingerCoffee, Apr 22, 2015.

My character is talking to herself and I need a word for the act of going over stuff out loud to unburden oneself. It's not quite "get it off your chest", that's more like confessing.

She wishes she had retorted but she never does. So alone she repeats the words she wished she had said.

There's a word for this exercise on the tip of my tongue that my aging brain won't let escape. Help please. Thanks in advance.
