    Something that made me giggle

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by stubeard, Aug 20, 2010.

Has anyone else seen the Scribophile advert on this site?

I'm not sure it bodes well for a writing website that its advert says: "Unlike any other writing website you've been to," as opposed to "Unlike any other writing website to which you've been."

    :p

The adverts are provided by google ads, and we have no direct control over the content. They help pay the bills, but we do not specifically endorse any of the individual advertisers.

In any case, ending a sentence with a preposition, even though not considered a best practice, is not an unforgiveable gaffe in informal writing.

Also, "unlike any other writing website to which you've been" comes across as pedantic and stuffy. It's more likely to repel visitors than attract them.
