AHHHHH! Stupid keyboard keys

The all-important A-key on my laptop recently broke. It still fits on, but the plastic bracer things broke somehow so that it fits on but if I apply pressure on the bottom half of the key, it pops off. Any solutions? Could I use a minimal amount of clue to repair these small cuts in the bracing thing?

 

I don't know, but I sympathise. I had to reload my laptop, and now my @ is on the 2 and my " is on the other key. Other symbols have gone runaway too. Very annoying.

But you could try glue I suppose? Or a small blob of blu tack if you want something more temporary/fixable.

 

I might try it and just use the point of a toothpick to apply it because its really starting to just drive me insane. I may have to use a seperae USB keyboard, which is fine with me, but I'd like to mainain the portability and keep all the keys from jumping ship at random times.

 

I had a similar thing happen with my L key, on my old laptop. I fixed it with a carefully applied dab of superglue, but to be honest it was never completely fixed.

 

I dropped my keyboard once, and the shift key popped out. I fixed it but, well, I put it in upside down.

You can probably go to Geek Squad or another computer helper group. They might be able to give you a good bit of help, or for a fee send the computer off to the factory or a place where they can fix the keyboard or replace it.

 

Try this. I have it bookmarked from the one time one of my keys fell off. But if it's really broken I think you're gonna have to glue it back or get another key (they sell them online).

 

It sounds like your keyboard has reverted to a US, or other foreign country, layout. It can probably be changed through settings of some sort. I'll look into it for you. What OS are you using?

 

It so happens that i work in a computer shop

Right well if the key has just come off and the black plastic connectors are all attached then its fine to push it back on but it is a bit fiddly. However if one or more of the connectors are broken then you cant get the key back on again properly.

Unless you are extremely skilled at superglue and angles

My old laptop had a dodgy keyboard. I just plugged in a regular keyboard in the plug on the side and went from there until I could afford the new laptop. It was a pretty clunky fix, but in truth, it worked just fine.

 

Yeah, plugging in a new keyboard works just fine until you have to move

If the key wont go back on, then the only other option is the get a new keyboard fitted in the laptop, which isn't cheap

 

My C key popped off a few months ago. I tried to salvage it, but the effort was futile. It still works when I just tap the bare contact. Still, though...I changed all my passwords that contained a C, just in case.

 

I remember when I had these problems. (cries over the memory of ami thinking the keys were chocolate...)

I woke in the middle of the night to my daughter on my chest with a handful of my laptop keys... I'll show you the results... this is after putting the keys back on that would go back on! (cries)



But I just got a wireless keyboard and mouse. I prefer it this way too actually. I don't have to hunch over my laptop anymore. YAY! lol! Annoying to be honest, but at least it will do till I get a new one.... even more have gone than that now. They ended up falling off. So I seriously feel your pain and know what it is like, all too well!

My wonderful birdie likes to pull my keys off the laptop. They have all gone back on, so far. Anyone know how to get bird poop out from under the keys???? This thing will start to stink soon.

Well, it must be since I followed the instructions and my keys/symbols are where they're supposed to be. Now I just need to retrain myself to go to the right keys, instead of the swapped ones

I have been very lucky with my keyboards, they are all in working order at the moment

 

I have a truce with Vista at the moment. I'm trying to negotiate a truce between Vista and Linux, to take down Apple.

(Yes, this is playing out in my head like the Lord of the Rings )

 

I think I'm just going to resort to using a seperate keyboard connected by USB.
