Just finished watching an amazing game between the Eagles and Cardinals. Sometimes it's the simple things that make you happy.

01:16 - Sitting in my bed, writing on a new story that came to me when I was showering earlier today. Everyone else is asleep, expecting me to be as well. Ah, the silence, the inspiring silence!

Rue is asleep on my lap, and Smudgie, my cat is asleep on the back the couch just behind my head. Slowly, oh so slowly, she is sliding off onto my head.

Installed my locking mail box today. Mail is being stolen in the neighborhood and they hit a half dozen houses on our street on this block.

This neighborhood used to be like that, very few break-ins, only one homeless guy in the park, the off-leash dogs remain our biggest problem.

But the city is bulging this way. On the bright side property values are also on the rise so at some point I'll downsize, retire and find a nice little community that I can write in.

We're backed by the High School and one of the city's seven parks. The firestation is five blocks over and you can't swing a cat without hitting a church or a school. It's an old river city, so the architecture is very cool. Yeah, I like my town.

We have bluffs on both sides and the colours in the maples...I'll spare the spate of adjectives and just say, wow. We have so many old trees and established gardens that it's like stepping back in time. Sidewalks are shady in the summer haze, and sheltered from the worst of the snow.

My sister and her husband live in the middle of pancake nowhere, so my river city gave my brother-in-law claustrophobia because it is so lush and vital.

Finally! The Net is back up at my house. Nine hours without a connection, the withdrawals were painful.

Been happy lately, distracting myself from work with a game my friends have invented of trying to make places sound exotic and appealing when really you are saying the exact opposite. In the style of a tourist magazine or something. Here's mine:

This is a European city, essentially untouched by the outside world. This city boasts lively locals who always want you to enjoy yourself in the traditional local ways. Here you will find a unique, exotic accent that once heard can never be forgotten. Make sure you visit Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Ok, I think I want to go there now!

Even though I have a cold and I've got to present my paper in front of two rather scary professors, I feel pretty good. And I can't wait for the weekend so T and I can do some more writing.

I'm happy today because my roomie has a dentist appointment this morning and a doctor appointment this afternoon. That means he'll be out of the house for quite a while, and I get the chance to get LOUD with my guitar! :D

Yay, I won a ticket to Cirque du Soleil's Quidam performance when they come to Finland next March.^^ I'm sooo psyched, 'cause I've always wanted to see them live, but the tickets are pretty expensive and they don't come here too often anyway.

Probably one of the few things all humans can agree on is that Cirque du Soleil is cool.

Feels like ages since I've been on here... anyway, in the happy thread because I'm happy with my life lately. Teaching is going well, autumn holidays were great, and I actually did some things today that were on my to-do list. :p

Hey Lydia! :D Long time, no see!

I'm just thrilled because I've just returned from my first full day as a volunteer at the local museum and it. was. EPIC!! I think I definitely found my calling. Library work or museum.

How can someone not like them? :p Tbh, I do feel a tad sick when watching some of those contortionist performances. My spine starts to hurt just from seeing that.

He's got some very nutty opinions on some things. At least they're not on anything major.

I've got the same thing. Sometimes I see contortionists do things that make me turn away with my eyes closed.

Once when I was building a control system for a theme park (this was Tokyo DisneySea, in about 2001), I was working closely with a choreographer who was a pretty damn good contortionist. Whenever there was an odd moment of relaxation, he'd twist himself into insane positions. I once went up to him when he had his feet wrapped around his neck while he was sitting on his elbows (or something - whatever it was, it wasn't really possible if you weren't him) and I asked him, "Is that comfortable?" He said, "Very!"

I didn't believe him. I still don't. I still can't believe he was able to do it in the first place.

Some folks are naturally twisted, and fail to appreciate those who have to practice to get totally bent out of shape.

I'm happy because last night, Halloween night, it didn't snow here in southern Maine.
