What video game would you like turned into a novel or like to read?

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Scott Sommers, Aug 8, 2016.

Im a child of the 80s and loved playing video games in the arcades and on my home console such as Double Dragon, Street Fighter, Captain Comando, Golden Axe, Shinobi and Outrun. I kept telling myself that a novel or a short story would be awesome and fun to write out of any of my favorite past time video games. I would love to read Captain Comando novel. Three guys and a baby who pilots a mech robot come together to defeat a villian who wants to rule the world. Cheesy I know, but I can definitely create a story out of this game.

    Fallout.
    Fallout 2.
I'd say Mechwarrior but there are already a plethora of Battletech books. It needs a movie.

That probably would have worked better as a book, in my opinion.

The Deus Ex Series, Dishonored, and games like Rimworld where the player forms the narrative from their actions.

Alan Wake, a novelist who's wife goes missing on a holiday on the Maine-esque east coast of the US – his quest is to track her down following clues from a story that's by his hand (although he can't recall writing it). The events in his story happen in reality as he gets closer and closer to her whereabouts.

    Silent Hill 2.

James' story and his descent is fascinating, horrifying and heartbreaking.

That would be pretty awesome! One of the best games I've played story-wise.

Yeah, I'd love it updated as a game but only in the sense the imagery is brought up to match today's graphic card capabilities. The auras, the atmospheres and the setting were ace back then—imagine them in 4K.

For the story itself; if it was made into a novel—it'd be three layers deep: Art imitating virtual reality imitating art. < Lucky it's not based on a true story!

Indigo Prophecy. It was a game that wasn't marketed well, but received great attention to its story and unique gameplay. The developers of Indigo Prophecy also developed Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.
