Japan develops brain and eye pills for gaming fans

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Raven, Apr 11, 2008.

Gaming addicts with sore eyes and tired brains may be able to perk up with "Game Suppli", a new Japanese supplement developed specifically for the country's thousands of fanatic players.

"We concentrated on developing a supplement for those who love games," reads the advert for the pills on www.cybergadget.co.jp, a Web site that sells a range of accessories for video game fans.

Maker Kyowa-Yakuhin produces two different supplements for the "Game Suppli" range: blueberry tablets that are meant to be good for the eyes, and transparent capsules containing Docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, a fatty acid that supposedly enhances concentration.

Japan's convenience stores are stacked with drinks and capsules claiming various health and beauty benefits, sometimes without any scientific evidence.

If that works, that's actually brilliant. Something to fight the bad side-effects of digital viewing like playing videogames or watching TV.

I play way too much on the computer, I know. -.-

I have to wonder whether this stuff would actually work and what sort of side effects it would have even if it did. It can't be good to just supress that kind of thing so that you can carry on playing.

I don't see how it would be much different from suppressing natural sleep functions with coffee and other caffeinated products. However, I wouldn't use it... bet your eyes would feel like hell the next morning... but, I don't drink coffee either.

Hmmm you might be right there adamant, and coffee on a constant basis to supress your need for sleep is bad for you aswell so it can't be all that different if it even works. I don't drink coffee either and considering all I drink is water or fruit juice I manage to steer pretty cleer of caffeinated products too.

    It depends what it does.

I figure it will either be like coffee, or it will be medicinal.

i can hear all those e.t.'s now:

"Those stupid humans want to take a pill for everything. Looks like the easiest way for us to take over the planet is to just infiltrate their pill factories and slip a bit of our genetic material into the mix!"

XD Not what I meant... but I do like to buy American (Lord of Hats knows the local economy needs it).

Seriously though, I hate all forms of drugs that arn't necessary for me to live. I even refuse advil and the like when I have a head ache, I just don't like messing with my body chemistry.

I, too, prefer not to take ibuprofens when I have a headache... get all worried about building up tolerances, and I just don't believe it is necessary. The only medicines I take are for fighting off illnesses, or ones prescribed.
