    The Song of Your Life

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by sashas, Jun 30, 2007.

I was watching some Sienfeld reruns, and there was this episode in which Elaine meets this guy who's obsessed with the 'Desperado' song by The Eagles

Made me think...whats the song of my life?

It probably is "Man of the Hour" by Pearl Jam

    has anyone heard that song?

and what's the song of your life? the song that really defines you, the song that you will ALWAYS pause to listen completely, no matter what, the song that helps you go through the worst phases of your life?

"Man of the Hour" has done that for me
a close second would be "Yellow Ledbetter" again by Pearl Jam

The song of my life would proberly be Butterfly On A Wheel written and sung by the Mission.

    Why?
Because the Lyrics are so powerful and I have listened to that song since 1989 when it came out with the album Carved in sand. Its a song about life.

But the one song that defines the person I am Is written and sung by James Blunt and called No Bravery. Why?

Because the lyrics portray my time in foreign lands were death lingers like a bad smell and people are suffering. I've been there and I have seen everything in those Lyrics as has James Blunt. To understand me you'd have to be army. But the I always stop and listen to this song its a question of respect for the lost and fallen.

And finally Fantastic Place written and sung by Marillion.
To understand you'd have to have stood and seen what I have with my own eyes.

Instantly, the story by 30 seconds from mars comes to mind. I get a lot of misty eyed feelings when I listen to it...

    Probably Make yourself by Incubus.

I find the lyrics inspiring and to be honsest, listening to Incubus throughout some difficult times in my past has helped me through. Not because I like them in general (I do anyways) but because most of their lyrics mean something.

There are probably dozens of songs that could be a soundtrack to my life. But that one stands out.

In The End by linken Park is one that always comes to mind for me.

Also a song called Nothing Done which is written by an old friend of mine for me. It describes everything about me, in every possible way.

My life is catchy, it's got a beat, and you can dance to it, so Love Found Me by DecembeRadio instantly occurs...maybe others, but I can't think of them right now.

I asked my boss why she likes Fast Car by Tracie Chapman (i think thats her name) and she said "because it describes my life. I thought I was going to be something but I never amounted to anything."

"Sweetness" by Jimmy Eat World. I don't know that it really describes me, but it's my song. It's the song that reminds all my friend of me. It's also a song that gives me goosebumps every time, no matter how often I listen to it.

If I had to think of a song that relates to me as a person, though...it would have to be "Pardon Me" by Incubus (even though I really dislike Incubus). I say that song because I am constantly reinventing myself. I don't know who has seen my tattoo, but it is a pair of phoenix wings I designed to remind me that life does go on, even when I'm at my lowest points. I've needed them at several points in my life.

Breathe (2 AM) by Anna Nalick

It all fits: the haunting melody, the depressing lyrics...

Perfect song for my life. There are others that fit as well. Just depends on which aspect of my life we're referring to.

The Movie in my Mind from the broadway show Miss Saigon fits perfectly in one section of my life.

How to Save a Life by the Fray works well with another section.

It's really hard to just pick one, you know?

I love Breathe and How To Save A Life, but I can't really say they're my life songs.
I have, however, thought of a new one for me: My Life by Billy Joel.
I mean, not only does it represent my life, it actually represents My Life. How awesome is that?

I am yet to find a song that just describes me perfectly. But there are a few songs that really inspire me:
-When The Eagle Cries - Iced Earth
-The entire Wake The Dead album by Comeback Kid
    -We Don't Need A Hero - Edguy

Mine is without a doubt, "Don't Follow" by Alice in Chains.

Hey, I ain't never coming home.
Hey, I'll just wander my own road.
Hey-hey, I can't meet you here tomorrow - no, no.
    Say goodbye don't follow -
    Misery so hollow.

Hey you, you're livin' life full throttle.
Hey you, pass me down that bottle, yeh...
Hey-hey you, you can't shake me round now.
I get so lost and don't know how, yeh...
It hurts to care, I'm goin' now.

Well I forgot my woman, lost my friends
Things I've done and where I've been,
Sleep in sweat - the mirror's cold -
Seen my face? It's growin' old -
Scared to death, no reason why
Do whatever to get me by,
Think about the things I've said
Read the page its cold and dead

    An' take me home!
    Yeah! Take me home!
    Oh-oh... take me home
    Take me home, yeah.
    Take me home. Yeah, oh.

    Say goodbye. Don't follow.
