Today I'm happy in part because the New England Patriots' offense has looked good during this year's preseason despite quarterback Tom Brady having to wear a kneebrace because of an injury caused during practice a number of days ago.

Also, backup QB Ryan Mallett looked good a couple of days ago in the Pats preseason game against the Bucs.

If anybody has any idea how or why a football club bankrolled by their national government (that the whole of Europe has just bailed out) feels the need to waste £85m on a one-footed Welshman, please do enlighten me.

I don't know what you're talking about - all I can guess is that the foot that Welshman has is really rather spectacular. Could that be it?

Haha, you're definitely not wrong! It's Gareth Bale- Real Madrid just broke the world record transfer fee to acquire his services. Good player... but seems disproportionate nonetheless.

Solid left peg though, I'll give you that.

The Red Sox lost to Detroit 3-0 yesterday. Tonight these two teams go at it again.

It's kind of odd that Boston has a good offense, but certain games they don't produce on offense.

Meanwhile for the Raiders, Pryor was relatively competent, but still managed to find a way to lose a winnable game. At least they can't possibly lose to Jacksonville, right?*

*The Raiders will lose to Jacksonville. At least it looks like there's going to be Red Sox baseball this October, and Nonis's attempts to hamstring the Leafs shouldn't prove too effective until next year.

Wow. The Dallas Cowboys beat the hated New York Giants. In Dallas. On opening day of the football season. Huh.

This is actually great for me, because I'm a Cowboys fan (don't ask me why - even I have no idea. But there's no NFL team in Los Angeles, so I'm forced - FORCED, I tell you! - to look elsewhere) and I hate the Giants. I hate the Giants because I'm convinced that Eli Manning is a lousy quarterback who keeps finding new ways to stink, and yet he wins championships. Coach Tom Coughlin has obviously been in serious negotiations with Mephistopheles.

@minstrel - I have to disagree with you. I'm not much of a pro sports fan, but I must let my detestation for the cowboys be heard after your post. I can understand your dislike of Eli, but please don't tell me you think Romo is any better.

Go Giants and go Ole Miss Rebs!!!

Romo is spectacularly brilliant when it doesn't count. The more pressure is on, the more it's a "must win" game, the worse Romo plays. His season and career stats are amazing - the best in Cowboys history - but he has a superhuman ability to crush and piss on the dreams of Cowboys fans in the last few games of every season. He is a massively-talented, highly-skilled loser. I'm sure in any test of quarterback skills he will outshine Eli easily, but Eli wins when it counts and Romo just doesn't. Romo is endlessly frustrating - he soars high, but always crashes and burns. He's fascinating to watch, but there's no way I'd bet on him.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was quite frusterated at his inexperienced recievers last Thursday in the Pats win over the New York Jets.

Many people think Brady shouldn't have been so impatient with his receivers for making a lot of mistakes against the Jets. But I think it's a good thing that the Patriots have not only a great QB, but also a QB who has a passion to win, a real passion.

    I like Brady's fire!

The Patriots are on a bye week this week, which is good for them since they're on a winning streak.

For the players, it's hard to have a bye week when you're on a losing streak, as it makes practices a lot more emotionally draining.

The very idea of contemplating the cold, dark, arid wasteland that is pro football in New York is just too much for my constitution to bear.

The Patriots offense isn't the same when Tight End Rob Gronkowski is out with an injury. And he's so injury prone. If Gronk doesn't get injured anymore this year, the Pats will be very lucky.

    I'm...for the Saints. GO UNDERDOGS!!!

Miami Dolphins seem to be a good team, but then I only saw them in one game whomping San Francisco's team into the dirt. I'll have to watch more of their games to see how they're truly like.
