I always wanted to do "Utopia" from the old vote-for-theme polls.

Here's a list of suggestions, from just off the top of my head:

    1. Someone is hunting your main character. Who is it, why are they hunting your MC, and how long does it take your MC to find out?

    2. Your MC gets a phone call in the middle of the night. Is it good news, is it bad news, and what will your character do now?

    3. Your MC is stranded somewhere. (Pick anywhere - desert island, plane crash, a highway in the middle of nowwhere in a blizzard.) How do they cope with this problem?

    4. Your MC is digging around in the attic and finds something peculiar. What is it, what does it imply and why does this surprise him so much?

    5. Your MC sees a major accident (house fire, car crash, kids skating on a lake with too-thin ice and they fall through) and has to take action to save someone / something he cares about.

    6. Your MC is running away from ... something. (Could be a bad relationship, a charging bear, an avalanche, a gunman... pick something and go with it.)

    7. Your MC is hiding a secret about his identity. What is it, how does he hide it, why is it so important to hide, and what will he do if someone finds out?

    8. Your MC has a miserable family situation. What is the problem and how does your MC cope or fail to cope?

    9. An alien / monster appears in the MC's town. Describe what happens next.

    10. Your MC loses his hand / hearing / eyesight in an accident / disease. Describe how your MC adjusts to a very different lifestyle.

    11. Your MC is meeting someone he/she loved for the first time in a great many years. What do they have to talk about? Where / how do they meet?

    12. Your MC is in a tournament/contest of some kind. Describe what it is and how they do.

    13. Your MC was just abducted. Why and by whom? How does he escape (does he even escape)?

How about that oh-so-elusive objective, HUMOR?

Or the somewhat less slippery quarry, SUSPENSE?

Hey, how about "In The Life of The Grim Reaper". I've always thought that'd be hilarious. :D

    13. Your MC is exploring an unfamiliar area when he finds / sees something strange.

    14. Your MC's new job isn't quite what he expected... What is it, what's weird about it?

    15. Your MC just received a Vision. What was it, what is his mission now that he's seen it, and what caused the vision? (Can be played straight or silly, whichever you prefer.)

    16. Your MC is involved in a case of mistaken identity. Tell us about it!

    17. Your MC has a special power (superpower or more mundane, like being able to always remember where he puts his car keys). How does he use this in day-to-day life?

    18. Same as #17, except for the question: How does he use it in his career?

    19. Your MC is on his morning route to work when something happens and he can't continue. Spin this however you wish, but remember: whatever stopped his car / train / bus wasn't something typical.

Remember to keep contest themes general enough to allow a wide range of interpretations.

I've written happy endings. But always in the more melancholy, yes we won but I just went through hell to do it and its still not all sunshine and roses.
So I thought this might be an interesting challenge.

A chase. Pursuit. Make the topic either chasing or being pursued. It'd be fun.

    Satire?

I think that would be a fun theme.

    How about a parable?

Or how about "The Most Cliched Story in Existence?"

How about a coup? Some sort of change in government (regarding the current US governmental situation).

How about a first person point of view of someone lacking one of their major senses?

Turn the conceptions of every RPG on it's head, a male wizard being protected by a powerful female knight.
