    Thought I'd say hello...

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Phil Partington, May 29, 2015.

Been writing most my life, on a professional and personal level, though I only really got back into fiction writing about eight years ago after an eight-year hiatus (where I focused more on non-fiction, non-lit article writing and such). Am an editor by trade, though, which makes me horrible at first drafts because I always want to edit (a la Dean Koontz :p).

Been looking for a good writing forum, so I thought I'd give this place a try. More about me and some of what I'm working on (among other things) via the link on my profile.

    Thanks and erm...hi :).

I know some things, but more importantly I think (I try) to be humble. In it to learn and improve, nothing more. What I can't stand more than someone who isn't knowledgeable is someone who thinks they are and tries to pass opinion off as fact. When it comes to methodologies of fiction writing, I believe "what is more effective?" is a more appropriate question than "what is right?"

:) thanks, though. Glad to be here.

    Welcome to the forum. :)

Good to hear you're getting back to writing fiction. It's a lot of fun, isn't it? :D And I'm sure your experience will be welcomed with open arms here. And editing as you go along is probably not a problem. Different strokes, eh? Do whatever works for you. :)

Here's our New Member Guide to get you started. Have fun!

Thanks, Kat. Yeah, like I said...got back into fiction writing nearly a decade ago, but the learning process is endless. And the editing-as-I-go approach does work for me, except it makes for a challenge to get the story on paper, which is something that needs to happen.

    Thanks for the welcome.

    Hey Phil, welcome aboard!

What genre of fiction did you write?

Thanks, Mordred. I tend to gravitate toward fantasy and suspense and, at times, elements of horror.

Mordred isn't by chance a reference to Mordred Deschain of the Dark Tower novels, is it?

It's actually Mordred, the character of Arthurian legend. The Dark Tower series is something I have yet to read.

Figured :p. Mordred is commonly re-used.

Well, if you like urban fantasy, you should read it. My favorite series of all time, personally. :p
