I think I'd handle it the same way I handled nearly drowning when I was in Hawaii... I was swimming near shore, and a rip current came through and began sucking me out to the deep ocean. I panicked and instinctively tried to battle against the current, which only made me exhausted, pulling me out further. After realizing all of my efforts (i.e., flailing arms, gulping of water, and screaming mostly underwater) were fruitless, I gave in to the current. A few seconds later, I felt my cousin grab onto me and pull me up onto her surfboard. If I knew I was going to die, I'd rage against it as best I could. But if all hope was gone, I'd mentally release myself to it; although it would probably not be until the 11th hour, so to speak.
