It seems from all this you and I are not really that much different. Only, I assime, we vote differently. I am though very aware that crime does pay well for too many young people, the students are all too happy to tell me, to be honest. I've heard of a 17 year old renting his own flat and paying for it by selling weed. Some students do bullshit, but you get to know very quickly who is the real deal and who is just acting.
Because people don't like seeing the NHS go to the highest bidder? No idea to be honest, I'm just throwing that out there.
Sad thing is, nothing will change. I get the impression that a lot of people who voted for the Conservatives are now regretting their choice, except for the pompous rich folks, of course.
It's the BBC. You can't expect them to have good grammar, they've only just learned what the word 'pedophile' means.
How come you don't run for Labour leadership, @Lemex ? You could create a scandal with your comments about Scottish exports, and have your user pic on the BBC.
If I ever did become a politician, I think I'd be the first in living memory that said exactly what I thought in what I hope would be clear language, that anyone could understand. I hope the general British public would respect that enough to forgive the inevitable scandals involving male prostitutes and heroin.
At all. One thing I don't like about Ed Miliband's Labour party is they tried to hide the fact they'd raise taxes. Well, why be scared of it? You are scared of losing middle class voters? Be the socialist you say you are, and stand on your principles, damn it. Yes, the labour party would raise taxes, but that also means almost everyone in the country has free access to health care and other essential services. I hate this voting with your wallet; I mean, fuck it, I'll happily pay an extra £100 in taxes if it meant homeless people are given basic accommodation, and aren't left out in the cold streets to get beaten, raped and maybe even die there. [Vote Lemex in 2018!]
Indeederino. I couldn't agree more. Some people don't understand the concept of compromise. What's a small lose in your wage package if it covers a lot of the worrying and stressful aspects of life. I actually really like the Swedish system, with higher taxes but free access to health care and higher education.
What an interesting concept -- I'll have to read up on it more. In North America, we talk about marijuana, gay marriage, abortion, etc. This Keynesian stuff might not get off the ground, though. "Socialism" is thrown around with great liberty as a descriptor.
I struggle to think of a more abused word than 'Socialism'. Especially in the United States. Maybe 'Kafkaesque', or maybe even 'Marxism'. It's hilarious actually, even Marx wasn't a Marxist - that's how silly Marxism is.
I find American politics is all about tarring things with that 'socialism' brush. I spoke to an American the other day about all the gun violence that's took place in America over the last year or so, and I said that UK and most European countries don't really have that problem because we have strict gun control. He was quick to reply with, I don't want gun control. I'm not giving up my right to own a gun. So I said, it's not about giving up your right, it's about forming a social agreement that firearms are not helping your society and need more strict control. Then he came out with something about 'having the right to defend himself against his own government,' which everyone has, gun or not. And I said, well everyone has the right to a religion, but when people start cutting heads off in the name of some fabricated delusion then it becomes an unnecessary threat to society, like guns. The thing is, in America, politicians seem to twist words around saying that control is like losing your rights and brand it socialism, when it's nothing of the kind. It's more of a collective consensus to suppress the threat of mass murder. It's the same in all politics really, but to different degrees.
To add to this, I've seen Americans react with shock when they are told you can buy guns legally in the UK. Sure they are restricted, you can't buy a minigun - and you need a licence, but you can buy a gun here if you wanted to. And it's not like illegal guns are hard to find either. I know of at least 4 bars in Newcastle where I could walk in and buy a revolver within half an hour.
'Hello chap, I'm looking for a shooter. Babyface McPride says you might be the daddio to sort me some white metal, heh heh.' Lemex had researched, knew the score, and with a score to settle down at WF immersed balls deep, underground scene, here at The Stanley Blade, bar and grill. 'Show me your money,' said the daddio. 'Surely my debit card is sufficient?' said Lemex, his canine's shining in the bar atmosphere. 'Are you a pro, or I'll go the Sailor's Boot,' he said, raising stakes, and across the low table tension became unbearable. The weapon was passed over the divide, plastic-wrapped and orange-tipped at the business end. 'Remove the stop cap,' said Daddio, 'point and fire...your caps.' 'Caps man, I like your style,' said Lemex.
Well, "Muslim" is gaining ground. It apparently is now a right-wing trope to call anybody they don't like a "Muslim." And advocates start foaming at the mouth. Works every time. Bloody hell. I'm glad to be gone.
