When I was in college (the first time), my girlfriend brought me to her parents' place one weekend, and the appetiser for dinner was escargot with garlic butter. It may have been some kind of test... I had never had escargot, but even if it hadn't been that situation, I probably would have tried them. They were absolutely wonderful! I have had escargot that were rubbery or tasted a bit off, but well-prepared, they are wonderful.
