    How does one describe.....

Discussion in 'Setting Development' started by gala, Dec 27, 2012.

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a pleasant holiday and are excited about the New Year. :)

I am taking my first shot at sci-fi and I am writing a group of scenes that include: an escape, a spaceshuttle crash, and someone discovering the survivor. I have the bare basics written, but I would love to see what input you guys had.

I'm trying to figure out how to describe the action as well as the crash. What I have currently is really bland. Any helpful keywords, etc.

I'm afraid this is too general for any specific advices. It could be useful for you to read a story or more with similar settings and situations and find your inspiration there.

Can you post what you have so we can give more specific feedback?

Keywords are not going to help you that much. Making a crash evocative and/or exciting is more about the structure of the paragraphs and sentences.

This is kind of what it means to be a writer. Not to make you feel bad, but I'm sure everyone grapples with how to describe something. You just sit there looking at your monitor like a dork until something comes.

It gets easier, but not without a struggle.

I would recommend fulfilling the requirements for the Review Room (looks like you have enough posts, but there's the review requirement and there may be a days since first post requirement?) and then posting an excerpt for comments. I know that doesn't sound all that helpful, but this is a question that requires a very specific answer based on your writing style, and that's really only doable in the Review Room.
