Hotel California I've actually written a horror based on The lyrics of the above song, all you need is a little inspiration and the story shoudl flow from there
'Vincent' By Don McLean This song is so beautiful it literally makes my heart hurt, and I have used these emotions as an aid to my writing. I've never based a story on a song, only used music to inspire and aid me. However, its an interesting idea and someting I now want to try
I've overthought two completely unrelated songs to be something completely unrelated to what they were originally. The first is Otherworld from the opening of Final Fantasy X. I got the idea to make a story about someone who goes to the Irish Otherworld, the land of the Fae. The second is Chris Cornell's You Know My Name, from Casino Royale, which I see as being a hit man singing to the young man he's been training. The two of them actually are filling contracts on the others, and the older, more professional man is explaining how much better he is. Like I said, completely unrelated. I'm sure I've got a few more, but those stick out.
THAT'S what the other one was. Viva la Vida. The idea for that one is a guy who used to be the king of most of the world only he wakes up and no one remembers and now he's just a janitor. Another idea is that there's a new king of the world and it's all because of his vizier, and he has to deal with the fact that maybe the world is in better hands now.
I don't think I've ever based any of my stories off songs but I do use music to inspire me for certain scenes.
I have written songs loosely based on Songs. I either take the general story of the song, or whats done in the Music Video. I add my own to it, but I try and keep it with the general idea of the song/music video.
Many songs by Placebo. And especially Dir en grey. My second short script was written as my "Dir en grey script" I'm glad i found this thread. I used to have soundtracks for my story ideas, but this has given me more ideas, in actual SONGS. Good excuse to listen to more music. Today i started playing my iPod from A-Z - im still on A.. obviously, but a song by Abingdon Boys School re-ignited a desire to write something i never started back in college. thanks people
I have been know to use songs to come up with sub-plots or even just brief scenes from music. I even have a fanfiction in witch each chapter is inspired by a song on my play lists. I also like to give my characters theam songs that i listen to when I am writing them. My current big project started out as a single idea in my head from the song Papercut by Linkin Park. In fact the end of that novel also was inspired by the song Chop suey- System of a Down. now if I could just get the things in between. XD Another song that inspired me for a sub-plot was My December- Linkin Park for a story I am working on about a Demi-god who keeps losing his lovers until one shows up who refuses to die. Guess music is my main inspiration oh and as for Viva la Vida-Coldplay that is the theme song for my character who is the reincarnate of an evil mad-man XD
American Pie would be truly epic. You could use symbols in the book to represent the symbols used in the song, with the plot following the actual meaning.
