"Vegetable Matters" a Derringer Award Finalist

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by TWErvin2, Apr 1, 2009.

Thought I'd let folks here know that my story "Vegetable Matters" published by MindFlights is a finalist for the Short Mystery Fiction Society's Derringer Award (for the Best Novelette -- 8001 to 17,500 words).

The Winner will be announced May 15th. Who knows:)

    Terry,

I just finished reading this story. Outstanding! While the story is classic science fiction, the writing style reminded me of Hemingway, in that, the character development drove the story in a traditional literary manner. Absolutely brilliant storytelling, my friend, You deserve all the credit you might receive for this writing.

Thanks all for the well wishes and for the compliments on the writing and story itself! As NaCl indicated, it's a SF story, which doesn't fall in the normal realm of finalists for the SMFS's Derringer award. But it is a mystery, just a different setting.

I will share the results when I learn of them.

Good luck! I thought it was a great story, very intriguing. After I read it a while back, it inspired me to spin off in a completely different direction and try out something different from my usual--so, thanks!

Well, sorry you didn't win, Terry. But it's no mean feat to be nominated, and Vegetable Matters certainly deserved the honor.

    Maybe your next story ...
