Closed Voting Voting is CLOSED for Contest #174: "Drums"

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Short Story Contest Archives' started by GingerCoffee, May 23, 2015.

    Short Story Contest # 174
    Theme: "Drums" courtesy of @Sethypoo98

Contest story entries can be found HERE

We have five entries in this contest. The winner will be revealed in three weeks and the winner thread will be stickied until the next contest's winner is crowned. No more entries are allowed in this contest.

Entries are listed in the poll in the order posted.

Voting ends in two weeks, Sunday, June 7th, 2015 ~5:30 pm Pacific Time.

I encourage authors to vote. While it is controversial, it remains acceptable in the short story contest to vote for yourself. I encourage you to vote honestly. In the name of good sportsmanship only vote for yourself if you have read all the other stories and given them your honest evaluation.

Consider how the author has responded to the theme, as well as the quality of the writing and overall impression of the story in making your decision.

Read for pleasure, learning, and to vote.

Congratulations to one of our newer members and formidable competition, @Spencer Rose, for an intriguing story, The Scout.

    A fantastic collection of stories!

Congratulation @Spencer Rose, you won by a landslide and with probably the most emotional ending.

I did vote for @VirtuallyRealistic The Tribesman because I liked the story and enjoyed how the theme was applied in its cultural, formidable context.

@Sethypoo98 I don't think that The Crusader deserved no votes, it took on a different genre to all the other stories. It could be people tend to vote for the sort of genres they're most used to reading.

I did also enjoy @BookLover It's All a Big Joke and well deserved for joint second place.

@Megalith The Little Drummer Boy was also unusual and no ordinary story, either.

I applaud you all for handling some difficult theme! They were all great. :-D

First of all, big thank you to everyone who took the time to read my entry, whether you voted for it or not. It's the first time I've ever entered into a writing contest of any kind and I'm floored that it was well received. If anyone has any feed back, good or bad, I would love to hear from you!

As for the other entries; I loved them all. Especially the little drummer boy. Talk about a twist! They were wonderful and exciting, and it was so cool to see how everyone was inspired so differently from a single word.

And now.... WHOOOOHOOOO I WON!!! :) thank you thank you thank you!! Huge ego boost!
