    Short Story Contest # 186
    Theme: "Birth" courtesy of @Blighters

Contest story entries can be found HERE.

We have 8 entries in this contest! The winner will be revealed in 2 weeks and the winner thread will be stickied until the next contest's winner is crowned. No more entries are allowed in this contest.

Entries are listed in the poll in the order posted.

Voting ends in 2 weeks, Sunday, Mar. 6th, 2016 ~17:15 (5:15 pm) Pacific Time.

I encourage authors to vote. While it is controversial, it remains acceptable in the short story contest to vote for yourself. I encourage you to vote honestly. In the name of good sportsmanship only vote for yourself if you have read all the other stories and given them your honest evaluation.

Consider how the author has responded to the theme, as well as the quality of the writing and overall impression of the story in making your decision.

Read for pleasure, learning, and to vote.
Make someone's day, vote for their story!

And the winner is @Fernando.C with Reborn. :cheerleader:

I liked The Birth of Ivy too, @GuardianWynn I almost voted for it, the writing was some of the better writing of all the stories. But when your character asked the monster to kill everyone.... I thought that was terrible. I wanted her to be a good person.

Wait, you didn't like that she asked or that he did it? In her defense, she didn't think he could. Lol.

Now I wonder who did vote for Ivy. Lol.

I am glad you think my writing quality improved.

The writing quality was great. If you'd have had her ask for something less evil it would have fit the story better. Or, you could have made her more evil earlier on so the request for killing everyone fit with her character.

I just re-read yours, and I think I get what you were trying to do, but it took a while for the characters voice to come through. The first paragraph put me off. Has some potential, but difficult to engage with such an unsympathetc character (though Irvine Welsh manages to make it work!) Happy to review properly if you want.
