Hello soon to be friends! I am new to the creative writing world. Looking to learn about different writing styles, and how to improve my own skills as a writer. Even make some friends along the way! The internet is a magical place, and I am so fortunate to have found this forum. I look forward to reading the work of others, and getting insights on my own work. Cheers! Happy Writing! -Willa K
Hi Willa K, welcome to the forum! This is a great place to be, hopefully you'll find everything you need here.
THanks Imaginarily for the welcome! I am excited to be here! I am still finding my legs as a writer. I"m like a newborn, every opportunity or experience changes me. For now I am interested most in Fiction writing. Real people, in hard situations and how they come out on the other side. Not always a happy ending though I might add
I joined Wednesday, and I love this forum already. You'll find a lot of inspiring and encouraging people here.
That's exactly why I am here. Though I've been perusing a few of the threads, I'm slightly intimidated. I have A LOT to brush up on.
Hey, don't we all? Don't be afraid to ask questions about the forum and how it works. The rules are always easy to find, and the moderators are very helpful. I'm intimidated, yes, but I'm also very excited! You'll be fine!
I suppose that's why we're all here! I am very excited as well! Thanks for the pep talk Have you posted any of your own work?
Not yet. I still have to meet the requirements (stated in the rules). They're not that bad, actually, they're a really good idea and give you a chance to get used to the forum and how it works. It allows you to meet people you can identify with before you post your own writing. Then the critiques aren't so impersonal. But as soon as I can post something, I will. I can't wait. I like your profile picture, by the way. It took me a while to get it though. I don't know why, sometimes my brain likes to make me look stupid. It's a neat way of saying, "you learn from your mistakes". I prefer to write fiction, and poetry/song lyrics. Do you have a certain type of fiction? Realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, etc.?
I should really read over the rules. I glanced over them (shame on me!). Meeting people is always exciting and fun. I recently joined a local writing group in my area, and its been fantastic so far. So now I've kicked it up and decided to go to the online world, which is much more vast. This should be quite the journey! I also like YOURS! Its a great line. Definitely good thoughts to keep in mind. I mostly right realistic fiction. The type of writing I tend to put out is dark, nothing like how I am in real life.
That's okay. Many people do not write according to their personality, trust me, I don't. That's why I love the blue quote in my signature. I write across a broad spectrum within fiction (realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, a mix of these things, etc.), and I like to write informal essays on topics that I am interested in. Particularly, ones that I can debate and play Devil's Advocate.
Stay tuned !! I hope to get some great feedback from some of my work once I am cleared to post! I suppose that is very true. You're trouble aren't you Aidan? Haha
One-time Edmontonian here (16 months, leaving there in June '09). Welcome, hope everything goes well for you!
Welcome to the forum, Indigo. If you find yourself browsing for more than thirty minutes a day, it's normal: we are all addicts here.
Oh perfect.. I lost track of time, its been longer than thirty minutes... I'll have to set a timer tomorrow so I don't get too lost. I can feel the addiction growing inside me already.
I just have to say... what you said about sometimes your brain makes you look stupid... AWESOME! Now I get why I am so stupid sometimes.. it's not me, it's my brain making it look that way, lol!
Hi Indigo! Welcome from a newer newbie! I like to write fiction stories with a bad life for the MC. Anyway, the more I read on this forum, the less likely I will be in actually posting my work. But you sound like a really interesting person and I'm anxious to read what you have written. By the way, I spent part of my childhood in Edmonton. Besides the crazy weather, and the harsh winters, I do occassionally miss it.
Great to have another newbie around! I'm officially a member as of yesterday, wow! haha I've yet to post anything, though I think I'm nearly eligible for two postings.. I've done a few critiques now. I'm with you on this place being a little intimidating once you start diving into it. The waters run deep, but most of the sharks won't bite unless provoked. We are all here to learn from each other. This is a safe place. You and I will get along just fine as my MC always seem to suffer, or have some kind of trauma/incident that makes them rather f*cked up. Edmonton does have some pretty harsh winters, however I love winter. Just not the drivers ;P Welcome! Don't be shy, have fun. BE YOURSELF
