    A Deck Of Cards

    A Deck Of Cards

the ACE, it tells me that there is one GOD and no other.
When I see the "2", it reminds me that there are two parts to the Bible, the OLD TESTAMENT and the NEW TESTAMENT
The "4" reminds me of the FOUR GOSPELS, MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE and JOHN.
When I see the "5", it tell me of the FIVE UNWISE VIRGINS who were lost and the five were saved.
The "6" makes me mindful that GOD CREATED THE EARTH IN JUST SIX DAY, and GOD said that it was good.

As I look at the "8", it reminds me that GOD DESTROYED ALL LIFE BY WATER EXCEPT FOR EIGHT PEOPLE, Noah, his wife, their three sons, and their three son's wives.
When I see the "9", I think of the NINE LEPERS that GOD healed, There were ten lepers in all, but only one stopped to thank him.
The "10" reminds me of the TEN COMMANDMENTS carved in stone by the hand of GOD.
The "JACK" makes me remember the Prince of Darkness. Like a roaring lion, he devours those that he can.

When I look at the "QUEEN", I see the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, MOTHER OF JESUS.
As I look at the last card. 'THE KING', it reminds me that JESUS IS LORD OF LORDS and KING OF KINGS.

The Short Lament of the Lost Diamond

Like a lurid city-scape, chips stacked high at my side,
    and I played and won and lost in spades;
At the heart of it shone my quadcardinal face
and I am on demand: honesty on my sleeve.

Beaten, dejected, and clubbed to death
I regally withdrew from the table
with promises to jack it all in,
yet, what a hand, I am undefeated!

    The Card Smith

    find the moments
    Analyze it all.

Mindful sense, I take it to this place as well.
At this table, I take it all in,
Lost in their motions, I tend to them,
Anything they give me. Can’t stop
    Not even to breath.

    A twitch, a micro sensation,
Movements, only the master can see.
A deviation, eye swings to the right,
A lapse in verbalization tells me
There is a break in thought.

Mindful sense, I am cool in my transitions.
Slow, calm, I have a real sweet jive,
Flawless fakes, I see their minds scanter.
    I give them nothing,
I con them with my sweat.

    find the moments
    Analyze it all.

I come in like joker, play the fool.
Slowly lead the cattle out to pasture. Slaughter,
Don’t bother to waste time collecting milk.
I am the card smith, bending minds with my technique.

When I go home, I will eat meat tonight.

Thrown together w/ no intention to win. not even sure how close to the theme the head honcho would like, but doesn't care a nipple about it:

    She sits with sophomore eyes,
    depicting greetings from siphoned mirages;
A Rosetta Stone of hugs, kisses,
    and GET WELL SOON's.
She digs up her miracle box from lost accumulations-
her Hallmark Treasure Chest of cards for all occasions:
Just to say Hi! Thinking of YOU this Mother's Day!

She waits, thinks, chooses, and pulls
out her card - a tedious task. The wrong one
could send a horrible message, mind you-
But after eons of decimal consideration,
the card is finally right- like choosing the best
drapes to go over her closet windows-
(The wrong drapes and your social life is ruined, don't ya know?)

Playing this game makes her forgo suffusion-
constantly on the watch for a new card to enter the congregation
of speculation, chance, and "Oh Well."
This is her territory; Look kindly and clean up after yourself,
Don't smudge up her Hallmark 'glomeration,
and don't you dare send her a thought when she breaks her leg.
Fractures crinkle better than you, anyway.

She sighs, and silibates at the close of each hour,
As she sits with sophomore eyes, thinking of
    new ways to win.

Just another day of playing cards with the family.

    The Queen OF Hearts

The queen of hearts likes to talk for hours,
and sit in my hand for days.
She laughs and jokes with the other cards,
and we listen to what she says.

The jack of spades is a grumpy old bugger,
who’s always got some other moan.
The rest of the cards tend to stay away,
    leaving him all alone.

The king of diamonds is best not deferred,
for he doesn’t like being wrong.
He knows he’s the king of the card playing land,
but he knows it might not be for long.

The joker, he knows that his game is to play,
and make the other cards smile.
He laughs and he sings and falls on his head,
and he may even dance for a while.

The rest of the cards are loyal and good,
they sit in my hand for the game.
And while I am playing they whisper to me,
as I climb my way up to card fame.

I listen very closely but try hard to hide,
the fact that my cards are speaking.
For if people found out they would say I am mad,
or think at their cards I am peaking.

I do hope I win with my wonderful cards,
I see them all now as my friends.
They’ve been with me through all of this hard game,
and they’ll see me right through to the end.

Alright, Hull's Raven threw down the gauntlet - behold the masterpiece that will have you all eating your toes in envy!
You know, I am genuinely proud of this one! This so copy-righted!

    Jack, King and Queen.

She hears the spiccato and marcato of the strings,
    Quivering strings,
As the band moves to a tango and the ritual begins,
    The champagne stars prick lightly
    against an unfamiliar tongue,
while Jack’s left hand holds her tightly
    her heart palpitating slightly
as they swirl into the throng.
Stepping left, back, left, with a sudden ache of heat,
stepping left, back, left, right, front, right, repeat
flushing with a sudden ache of heat.

She sees glowing chandeliers in balloons,
    Green balloons!
As the band begins a number and a moody singer croons,
    to the melody reprising
    in a cresting machicotage
    with the champagne bubbles rising,
    Jack stumbles once, disguising
    kissing down décolletage,
her heart beats, beats, beats, to the rhythm of the tease,
her heart beats, beats, beats, please don’t, please..
don’t, please don’t, do it, please.

She joins them at the table, playing hands,
    playing hands,
as the night draws on to morning and the band slowly disbands,
    while her husband is guffawing,
    slapping cards upon the baize,
    her foot surely exploring,
    Jack is pressing and imploring,
    beneath the gambler’s smoky haze,
hit, stick, hit, stick, - you have, sex, ten, sixteen,
hit, stick, hit, stick, what is wagered is unseen
seven, eight, nine, ten, Jack, King, and Queen.
two, three, six, eight, Jack, King and Queen.

    The Battle of the Jack

The trial of Jack was at an end.
The shameful knave guilty as charged,
He would not be allowed to reoffend.

One voice rose up in his defence,
The Alice refused to accept the verdict.
    The courtroom was tense.

Despite the good Queens intelligent words,
The Alice showed her true, monstrous face.
    The jurors fled like birds.

The Queen of Hearts called for her guards.
    The Queens Cards advanced all-in.
They would defend their House of Cards.

Against the Alice Giant they did march.
Prepared to find who had the dominated hand,
Even as her head hit the highest arch.

    The Alice bellowed and swore,
    The stoutest hearts grew cold.
But the brave Cards ran across the floor.

The Monster gave an enormous stroke.
A hand of cards went down,
They lay still, their limbs bent and broke.

The noble Tens charged the Alice.
    Striking with spears and swords.
She crushed them with calculated malice.

A split pair of nines and eights attacked.
Spearing her armour to the floor,
Even as their heads were cracked.

A quad of Sevens moved behind the Beast,
    Spearing her in the back.
    Alice's screaming did increase.

    The Royals, flushed with terror,
    Could finally flee the building.
Followed quickly by the Standard Bearer.

The House of Cards was wracked
    The room was a bust.
And the valiant Cards continued act.

Yet the Alice Monster still struck back.
Back and forth they fought for a draw.
While through the back door fled the Jack.

Complete hands of Cards lay dead.
    Yet the Alice was fading.
    And her armour glistened red.

Like a maniac a Two climbed up high.
Yelling he flew through the air,
Letting Alice know her time was nigh.

    His spear pierced her neck.
    The Alice cried out,
And vanished, leaving not a speck.

The valiant Cards gathered their pot.
    They surveyed the wreck,
And marked the Monsters resting spot.

The House of Cards was rebuilt.
The Two was named a hero.
And the Jack was punished for his guilt.

The Alice was never seen again.
For the bravery of the Cards,
The Good Queen will always reign.

(I got this idea after reading Horatio at the Bridge. Hope you liked it.)

    "Deuces and Excuses"

    Deuces come with excuses
And reasons why my hand was not the winner
    Over yours.
You always win, don't you baby?
You always have, and now just maybe
    It's time to cheat and
    Switch the cards.
Your Queen has her eye on me.
