Sorry, again, about the delay. I'm in the middle of exams at the moment, hence the delay on this, and the fact that I'm putting the contest on haitus until Monday 7th June 2010.

This week's theme was (courtesy of Shadow Reeves): A Wish Not Granted

Voting will end on Sunday 30th May 2010.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    Bryan flew in helicopter high.
    After airplane ride.
Going to see the Mickey Mouse.
“Honey look that place your cartoons are about!”

    Pity the mechanic
who forget to check a rotor
    because his pay'd been cut,
his life of brick and mortar
now leans upon the sledge blow.
All his wishes never granted long ago.

    Why'd I Even Bother?
    By Eternity

    Your eyes were dark blue
You’d hold me and kiss me so long
Thought I was in love with you
Never knew I could be so wrong

You asked me what I wished for
As you held a daisy in front of me
I said I wanted you for my life through
You laughed and kissed me thoroughly

But morning always comes, all dreams die
This one no different to the rest
I thought I’d never stop cryin’
When my phone beeped, got your text

My dream was then a nightmare
My life’s a mess, do you even see this?
I don’t think you even care
That you broke my heart and broke my wish.

    A Prayer for Death
    By rainyman

When time is near to reckon with death I pray
it be at the close of spring. With a blush of summer
promised, the air is soft, and filled with a new
awakening of life demanded and growth promised.

As my time draws near, I pray I will remember summer
showers, the thunder tumbling across the sky. I pray my eyes
still see the cascades of color as all life stirs, exploding in the
the wonder of a soft summer’s morning.

Age is a robber of the physical. Age is demanding. Relentless. Consuming.
A thief of life, age steals vitality, then strength, and mocks in the taking.
My bones have been sent to a brittle destiny. My hearing left to muted memory.
I pray age grants me sight and smell. So precious these gifts if left intact.

On my final day, I pray my eyes feast on the colors of God’s pallet. I pray
the greens and yellows soothe me, that I fear not leaving this life behind.
I pray the reds and golds, purples and crimsons ease my burden and lift my spirit.
I pray, as I draw a last breath, I will be cleansed and grow in God’s love and forgiveness.

    Judges
    By TheHedgehog

    Gideon came charging out
of the thunderclouds astride a raven mount,
they alighted on the mountain, from the deepest skies,
amid the dissonance of the tempest cries.

    And his beast saw through my glassy soul;
with a thirst for thought, the raven stole…
from my mind, my dearest desire,
his obsidian eyes burning with prophetic fire.

“Gideon placed fleece upon the threshing floor,
wanting a sign from his Lord,
and now the selfsame is prayed by you,
for the dry earth, for a bowl of dew.”

The raven’s aria chilled my marrow,
against the storm his song did farrow
peace in the wind, calm in the sea,
it wrought a sense of wisdom in me.

Then Gideon dismounted from his beast,
    lowered his hood and spoke,
“God can’t grant your ev’ry whim,
and you’ll find this to be your greatest yoke,
for it as well was my mistake,
because when I asked God to show himself,
all He wanted was a little faith.”
