Weekly Poetry Contest (118) Voting - Footprints in the Sand

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Jun 29, 2010.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Eighteen
    Voting

A few more entries this week. Let's hope that'll mean more voters.

This week's theme was (courtesy of Headroller): Footprints in the Sand

Voting will end on Friday 2nd July 2010.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    Concrete and sand
They not that different are they?
    I don't know
That's the sort of things others know
    Smart people
    I never seem to know
When I walk across someones heart
    Carelessly
If the footprints I leave there
    Will be etched there forever
    Or disappear whiteout a trace
    I rather not know
    Me and my stupid footprints

    A Warning Print
    By Leaka

    Footprints in the sand
    you know you'll follow
    you know it's a message
    to your journey
    to a path

    But had you ever
    considered not following
    those mysterious prints
    who made them may
    be alive or dead

    And if you make
    the careful mistake
    you might find yourself
    following footprints
to the realm of the deceased

    Such lovely footprints in
    the sand as they cordial
    invite you to either
    choose life or death

    Made from ghost of
    the tides, made from
    spirits of the sea, and
    maybe your mom
    and dad made them

    But its more likely
    they will have you
    follow these sand prints
    all the way into
    the cave so they can
    open the door
    and bring you
    into hell

    Rift in the Ocean
    By Delphinius

    An endless trail of footsteps
Leads back to from where I came.
    Before me sky-blue ocean;
Behind me it's all the same.

    Driven away from my land,
    Driven away to the sea.
Screaming for hope: in the end
    Nobody here wanted me.

    Screams of the headlines aimless
    Shouted volumes of bigotry:
"They're taking our jobs, our women
    They practise idolatry."

A voice cries out from the water
With a hint of passionate plea.
Caught in a rift of existence
    Drifting from ocean to sea

    Without feet on solid ground
We cry tears in the ocean blue
    Footsteps in the sand remember
Send a message, clear and true

    Memories
    By Switch

    A memory,
    Or maybe something less important;
    A star, a sun, a planet,

    A glimmer,
    Imprinted in the yellow,
As its final flicker of light dies out,

    A Child,
    Entranced by the appearace,
Of the footprints in the sand,

    A trail,
Following the light to its source,
Where it burns the world from within,

    A sun,
Flames flickering as it fades away,
    Memories flung into the void,

    A breath,
    The last of its kind,
    Leaks out, leaving nothing,

    As it,
    Realising defeat,
    Leaves only footprints,

    In the sand

    Leaving these people behind,
too many problems to see cleary.
    I ain't got the anwsers,
    and I don't know how.

We'll make it on this tiny little money,
stashed in this shoe box, alot things in the past
we don't like to talk about, to many painful things
    we don't care to tell.

All these things just burning around us, collapsing the walls
and as we fall we'll take each other down,
the ash and broken wood falling around us,
we lived the best we could under the circumstances,

and I know we couldn't do much but we did what we could,
and we'll leave these footprints in the sand,
showing our children what path not to go down,
and we did what could, with what we had.

Try as we might, we all know, we will die,
Run life's course, be marry, have children
    And work for a vice
Like a Scotch on the rocks,
    Oh it tastes so nice.

Some fight, many lose, ruining my mood,
"Step back," I say, "Be happy with your lot
    Your mark will not last
    You'll die unhappy,
Just look at our troubled past."

Charity, fame, a future to save,
Ridiculous, a sham, to create justification
For the life of one man
    To lead alone
When no one else gives a d**n.

"Just wait, you'll see, the greatness in me,
I know I can do it, watch, wait and see."
    I scoff at the trouble
Why live on in another's memory
Your monument is destined for rubble.

So I watch, I laugh, until I fall flat on my back
So naive, so hopeful, another to fade
    Bravely they mark their passage
    Their mark like footprints
Forgotten and washed away by the masses.
