Weekly Poetry Contest (121) Voting - Simple Pleasures

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Jul 20, 2010.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Twenty One
    Voting

A few more entries this week. Let's hope that'll mean more voters.

This week's theme was (courtesy of Garfiun): Simple Pleasures

Voting will end on Friday 23rd July 2010.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    A moment in time
    By snake

    13/07/10

A petal flutters to the ground,
    The wind shifting its weight,
    Subtle and gentle,
    The inconsequential moves,

Like the lull of humming birds.
Like the murmur of the mute,
    There is a change,
    A slight variation.

    A breath draws in,
    A breath thrusts out,
    Time ticks by,
    As moments pass.

And i can see your lips,
    Wet and moist,
    Drawing me in,
    Welcoming my presence.

    We stay stationary,
    Lingering on the spot,
    Just you and me,
    Just me and you.

Her house stood tall beneath red wine waterfalls.
    Waves of change enclaved everything.
    Dust fell from the heavens.
    No rain, just pain.

When X & X aligned, beauty never failed.
With no beating heart, nothing set her apart.
Just numbers dividing, adding up, and multiplying.
    All for what?

She walked and walked for miles uncounted,
till blues went black and that old sax cracked.
Question and Anger knocked, demanding for Answer
    who said, “Come back tomorrow,
    she’s swimming with Sorrow.”

Millions of clones gazed at billions of stars.
Hoping for one, but none took the fall.
All she needed was one to set her free.

    Stars passing Earth were scared
of black swans, which swallowed them whole.
    No pecking order.
    No government.
    Just chaos and mold.
    It all began to fall…

Seconds chipped off, while minutes rolled by.
    Hours fell down.
    Days crashed without a sound.
Months faded away, and years died out.
She lost her footing, so began the forgetting.
Her emotions ran wild like beasts on the prowl.
Living on edge, she prepared for bed.

Painted on her face- a smile, a curse.
Planted in her head- blonde instead of red.
    Manufactured and glossed.
    Shipped and boxed.
Her mother’s voice was stripped at once.
    Her creator- forever lost.

The first day of May brought no sign of play.
And so she waited and waited in heels and lace.
A face of stone, a heart so lost,
trapped in a box with “Barbie” on top.

    “Mommy, Mommy, I want her!”
“Well, isn’t she pretty? How much is she?”
    “Twenty-five, ninety-nine.”
"We’ll have to come back some other time.”
“But Mommy I want this one!”
“There are plenty of dolls just like her
with dimples and cars and clothes and all.”
    “But Mom…”
“Come on! She’s just another doll.”

    Just another doll-
who fell short of having it all.

    Sherbert Skies
    By Eric Aiello

You can never see the sun
    move across the sky until
    it teases the mountain horizon.
Then you can see it dip and sink.
    You can watch it drop.
    I'm watching it now. I'm
    watching as it caresses the
peak of the mountain, caresses it
    until the mountain consumes it.
    It's a third gone,
    half gone,
    two-thirds gone.
And as the entire orb falls
    below the mountain-crest, it
    leaves behind a sherbert sky.

    Summer Scent
    By MissBelle

    The aroma fills my room
    Wafting through the screen
    Of a window left open.

    The lawn mowers gentle hum…
    Enhances the thick aroma
    Of grass, cut and drying.

    Summer sun fills my brain
    With bare feet walking slow
And rinsing saltwater out of my hair.

    A smell that remembers
    Every moment of freedom
    Of each summer day.

    Snooze
    By TrueShot

My heavy eyelids open, taking in,
    The yellow morning light and the glowing six;
That speaks of the coming day of monotony,
Of brushing yellowing teeth and balding hair,
Of an icy shower that leaves me tired and cold,
Of dry breakfast bars and instant coffee grains,
Of heavy traffic that honking never clears,
Of pointless helloes to pointless helloes,
Of turning aging computers on and typing,
    Typing.
    Typing.
    Typing.
    Typing.
    Typing.
    Typing.
Till the paralyzed clock miraculously cured,
    Shows five.
    Five,
    Five more.
    Five.
    More.
    Minutes.
    Heavy eyes are closed,
    Snooze button hit,
    Tedious day averted,
    For Five.

    More.

    Minutes.
