Weekly Poetry Contest (122) Voting - Creation

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Jul 26, 2010.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Twenty Two
    Voting

A few more entries this week. Let's hope that'll mean more voters.

This week's theme was (courtesy of Jane Beryl): Creation

Voting will end on Thursday 29th July 2010.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    Common creations are hospital born

Ready to try, ready to sporn

Expressions of hope, expressions of joy

A time to announce, we’re having a boy

Time to get going, hospital bound

It’s not the baby, abnormality found

Operation complete, she didn’t pull through

Now they’ve gone, what do I do?

I wish my fingers were a metronome
That I could wind and crank into inspiration,
    That could conduct verbose symphonies
    In perfect 4/4 time.

    But each sentence,
    Like a newborn fawn,
    treads unevenly, in false steps,
    And survival is uncertain

    Old scraps of cloth
    Picked with care
    One from Momma's apron
    Baby's tattered blanky
    Daddy's worn out overalls
    And Sister's jumper too
    Grand dad's favorite flannel shirt
    And Grandma's bright blue dress
    Each piece has a story
    Sewn and stitched with care
    As the quilt takes shape
It creates a history of us

    No one can touch this,
And I will never let them.
    This is my own invention,
    This is my own.
    My property, my dream,
    My creation, my work,
    My effort, and my own.
I will never let it go
And I will never share it.

I showed her it after school,
A few skips across the room,
And a twirl around the couch.
    “Do you like it?”
    “It’s beautiful, little dancer.”

Glue dries on the kitchen table
And glitters fall to the floor.
    I gave her the bookmark.
    “It’s for you!”
    “Thank-you, little artist.”

A jam sandwich on a plate,
Brought to the side of the bed
    Where my mother lay sick.
    “Get well soon.”
    “I hope so, little chef.”

One last trip to the hospital,
    To say our final farewells.
Her hand rests on my cheek.
    “Where will you go?”
She smiles, “To see our creator.”
