Weekly Poetry Contest (138) Voting - Light Reflected in Water

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Feb 9, 2011.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Thirty Eight
    Voting

Voting time! Not as many entries this week, but hopefully we'll have just as much participation

This week's theme was: Light Reflected in Water

Voting will end on Saturday 12th February 2011.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    Reflections On Water
    By jaywriting

    On a cool winter's day
    The river flows freely
    The ripples revealing
    A dirty cracked mirror

    I gaze down upon
    This chilly land of shadows
    Silhouettes are dancing
    And call me come nearer

    I see pictures painted
    In only one colour
    Still the painter will promise
    He might yet use another

    But this image is dull!
    My senses proclaim
    There is nothing to love
In this land full of shades

And so I walk and walk and walk.

    Wide hats and leather
    Dogs on a tether
They just want to be friends

    Buggies and babies
    Two fat ladies
    Pumping off the pounds

    Footsteps then curls
    The face of a girl
All of the world in her smile

    A motor running
    A man wrestling
    His mighty two wheeled foe

    The world in a rush
I walk on to the hush
I talk with my echo under the bridge

    Hazy and murky
    Polluted and dirty
Once more the water returns my gaze

    Fancy a swim?
    Come dive in
    Not today I politely reply

    For if green were grey
It would be grey all day
    In your drab flat world

    Mountain cracks.
    Full green sturdy bristles -
    Bamboo shoots in spring.

    Mountain cracks.
    Dead brown flimsy top -
    Bamboo melts in winter.

    Old man digs.
    Thirty three roots collected -
    Only one is heard.

    Old man crafts Tengai.
Bowl of grain. Moon in water -
    Nothing there.

    Helio’s Minuet
    By ScaryMonster

As I stand before the mizzen,
    the topgallant sails catch the
    ocean rhythm.

And upon a distant line of vision,
I spy the birth of wind, half risen.

From a star touched well he’s
risen, a lonely orb in an airless
    schism.

A clockwork god of grand precision,
a fiery ball with rays of crimson.

And within this brooding well, he
drags the current and the ocean
    swell.

He moves the ships and lifts the
gulls; he warms deck and cheers
    the souls.

But within these tropic climes he lifts
the winds and blows our minds.

A minuet of sorts is born, feeding
    dark cyclonic storms.

Convection rises, the storm is spent,
and to the Sun our prayers are sent.

    For Marc.

I awoke in the tender hours
    to meet you,
    as the winter-soft morning began.
    From the window,
we looked to see the distant glitter
    of all that was
    paper-white and new.
and at the rising sun squint at the
    the Seine
    which was burning
    like a ribbon of fire.

    At night,
you always meet me in the darkness,
And even before I fall asleep,
    I'm dreaming.
You lift me to the moon.
and when as night settles down
    we journey together,
    alone.

    Beloved one, you are
    harbinger of stars and clouds
    dawn, day and dusk.
    the waking sun
    and sleeping moon.

    I stumbled here,
    Into woody claws
    Of contempt
    And the night.
    Oh mercurial nymph
I beg the end of this downward flight.
    Into his arms you wept,
No tongue to speak your regret.
Yet his love kept you here
Deep in the ravages of some forgotten place.
Every night you seek the moon,
Through the mists of the lake
    You reflect your pain.
    And she weeps with you,
    Collecting in secret,
    Your emerald tears.
