    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Forty Three

    It's poetry time!

    The Rules
    • All entries must be on the set theme.
    • Only one entry per member.
    • No editing of entries once posted without my express permission (i.e. PM me and ask).
    • Poems must be titled
    • Entries must not have previously posted on the forums, and are not permitted to be posted for critique until AFTER the contest is completed.
    • Any violation of these rules will result in disqualification of entries, and possibly infraction.

The entry stage will be open for seven days, closing on Monday 14th March 2011.

The voting stage will begin immediately, and will be open for three days, ending on Thursday 17th March 2011.

And this week's theme is (courtesy of Cerrus): Limericks

The theme is yours to do what you like with, but we're looking for lyrical, probably fairly narrative poems.

The next (144th) contest's theme will be: Changes, and it will be opened on Monday 14th February 2011.

Be imaginative, have fun, and get writing.

PS: If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. I don't bite (much).

    Secondhand Suicide

I saw him grasp the chipped trigger
Barrel to his head was the figure
    He closed his eyes tightly
    And then ever so lightly
Became property of the grave digger

    Lucifer Schemes

Dancing in the fires of life
    Laughing at our mortal strife
    Killing through fear
    You know when he's near
He never just uses a knife

The Real Story of Jack and Jill

There once were some kids from Brazil.
Who accidentally fell down a hill.
    It was quite a fall.
Probably pushed off by a squall.
Is it possible that their names were Jack and Jill?

    The Bog Man

There once was a man who lived in a bog.
He spent his day picking nits.
He talked in circles as he sat on a log
And impressed himself with his wits.
His muddy reflection he held most dear.
The man spoke to hear his own voice.
He sucked the life out of all who came near
And died not regretting his choice.

    Apology

I really didn't mean to be rude
    Should have known better --understood
    Just having some fun
    And had a bad run
Really hope I won't be booed

    Two Men from Seattle

There once were two men from Seattle
who engaged in a saxophone battle.
    One got hit a G-flat
    that melted his pee sack
and ran home to his mother to tattle.
