Weekly Poetry Contest (146) Voting - Difficult Decisions

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Apr 4, 2011.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Forty Six
    Voting

Only a few entries this week, but some interesting ones at that.

And this week's theme was: Difficult Decisions

Voting will end on Thursday 7th April 2011.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    To live a life
    To face it's strife

    Checkerboard patterns
    The pawn's next move
    His path is laid out
    Helps carve the groove

    Entwined and twisted
    We get lifted
    The pieces are shifted
    Time is rifted

    To live or to die
    To fall or to fly
    Time to choose
    Or time to lose

    The hanged piece ponders
    The hanged piece wonders

    It's Not You ...
    By Bay K.

    Demon that I am,
    My ways, hellish.
Sulfur of Tartarus should fill my breath.
    Yet, allowed free roam above.
    All I touch,
    Cursed.

    It is not ascribed --
    I chose to be thus.
    Opportunities, squandered
    A basket of water.

    You saw me, reached out.
    I swore you were blind,
To ever smile at one my kind.

You gave, you listened, you felt.
Alas! She knew not this fiend.

    Possessed of Succubus,
    I eyed my prize
    Drawing from you without compromise.

    I ripped and gorged,
    You moaned with pleasure.
So unaware, the ebbing of your essence.
    Doubly Isaac –
You lay still, after the lamb was shown.
    True sacrifice!

    Your soul, half way down,
    I choked it up.
A god toying with his doll.

    Unfamiliar, the tinge within,
Which made me --for the first time--
    'See you'.

    You wept and cursed,
    And begged me to stay.
But I would not look your way.

    Forever now, shielding my eyes
    From your pursuing dazzle.
    Its simple magnificence rendering me
    Defeated!

    Sometimes it's Gray
    By Lea Belheim

    Yes or No
    Black or White
    Hot or Cold
    Up or Down
    Morning or Dawn
    High heels or flats

    But if it's

    a maybe
    red or pink
    50 degrees
    running up and down
    all afternoon
    barefoot?

    then it's hard
    because it isn't always
    black or white
    it's gray sometimes.

    A Difficult Decision
    By Solar

Knowing thyself, it's quite a difficult decision.
At his trial, Socrates announced to the good men of Athens
'I am the Gadfly sent by the Gods to sting the horse into action,'
despite knowing hemlock would be his last meal on earth.
    Of course, he'd probably argue:
'I know nothing - so how can I possibly
know if the fatal poison is to be my last meal on earth?
For all I know, I could come back as a real gadfly
feasting on livestock, arousing the racer stallions and fillies
declaring: Think of the chase as a great city state. Slow to act
because of it's ignorance - I am the Socrates sent by the Gods to
    illustrate that which goes unexamined.'
