Weekly Poetry Contest (149) Voting - Shakespearean Sonnet

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, May 3, 2011.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Forty Nine
    Voting

A healthy batch of entries this time.

And this week's theme was: Shakespearean Sonnet

Voting will end on Friday 6th May 2011.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

When all alone, quiet, and lost in thought,
I see again the times when I was young.
I smile for attention I often sought,
Knowing if I was sad then you would come.
You would dry the teardrops that then would flow
Be my bedside nurse on a restless night.
A soothing word and I'd forget my woe,
Consoled that you were not far from my sight.
Your wrath confused me when I misbehaved,
Never believing I was ever wrong.
But now I see love through your stormy rage,
With your wise words I have grown Oh so strong.
So when I think of you, Mother and friend,
All regrets are over, all sorrows end.

No such thing as true love
    By Jayy1014

To say one loves like the air we breathe in,
is nonsense, fore, true love doesn't exist,
one shall end up depressed and full of sin
if shall believe such a mind-boggling twist

When infatuated one may be blind
but as you're denied you'll begin to see
love is only a myth, it's never kind
the hurt remains, unlike any skinned knee

To take somebody's heart should be a crime
fore, they steal it and they don't give it back
they will leave it broken, buried by grime
A warm heart is what most people will lack

To say one loves like the air we breathe in
you silly fool, true love has never been

    Last Night
    By tarnished

I'm feeling light, this bottle weighs to much
this nights to long, I didn't want to stay
I don't like her, but shes soft to the touch
It's not right, but I'll do it anyway.

Loving this guest room, the walls are so low.
Instincts to love, our rhythm is unflawed-
perfection in moonlight, you midnight glow.
I'm asking why I ever questioned god.

This happened so quickly, to fast to pace
I'm loving you like I'm gonna miss you
this is a game, and our love is a race
you say you love me, I say I do to.

Love is never waste , except when you are-
blurry memories of a night to far.

    Sleeping Lessons
    By Brandonreiderer

A state of mind in which peace triumphs all
Creative thoughts indulged in while asleep
    An extravagantly elegant drawl
A wonderful yet vain hope to be reaped
All alone at an isolated lake
No sad sorrow, nor a soul within miles
Nor a dearest fair accused at the stake
Nothing but the silent, peaceful twilight
And the red sunset flowing into night
The setting sun gave the hills complexion
As the pine’s shadows swayed in their own right
As I skipped rocks into my reflection
Concluding a day isn’t your demise
Dreams in which you reject what you despise

    My Vile Mistress, Rage
    By flapjack

My mistress ever is vile, a vicious whore.
She gives herself to those that she can lure,

A hard a kiss for them who open the door,
and long a romp for those, anger is pure.

For men, women alike who they allow,
herself she gives for free, as they desire.

To money, fame, nor power will she bow,
Her only want to fill her growing choir.

But songs of theirs are only anger, pain
a chorus telling all of malice, hate.

Of all the songs she plays for none are sane,
they strum the tune of much a lesser fate.

My mistress ever is vile, a vicious whore.
Her song in fills my ears, and love I more.

My son, have you not heard a word I said?
You want to join, you say, to go and fight.
I do not wish, my boy, to see you dead.
I'd stop you, son, were it within my might.

But father, chose I now to stay at home,
And waited here for news of soldiers lost
Wouldn't I be guilty of the death of some?
To save just one, I'd gladly pay the cost.

I've been to war, my child, I've seen it all.
No medal nor honor were worth the price.
I lost my dearest friends, I saw them fall.
they're dead and gone now, yet were honored twice.

I know what you fought for father, or whom.
For us, you fought, you won, beat certain doom.

    Ha!
    By bangtail

I washed all the plates that were in the sink,
and dried all the dishes and cups by hand.
    So tired and worried I could not think;
today is the day that I leave my man.
He will not see that I need more from life,
and chooses to see what I do not do.
He chooses to treat me not as his wife,
instead as a girl who's just there to screw.
So, today I make his last homemade meal,
finish the laundry and walk out the door.
I look at my home and can't help but feel
though homeless and scared, he owns me no more.
Have fun doing what I normally do,
and as a parting note, "Honey, screw you."
