Weekly Poetry Contest (150) Voting - Looking into the Abyss

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, May 9, 2011.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Fifty

    Let's get voting!

And this week's theme was: Looking into the Abyss

Voting will end on Thursday 12th May 2011.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

First a slight turn and a gentle lunge,
the daredevil cultures his own admiration.
The fear stems in his throat and then splinters out of his mouth in a "roar."
Looking down a spotlight sweeps and combs.
A thousand peepers shift and expand.
"A death defying leap," in the darkness is spoken,
The lunge slips and plummets, and spirals to the sand.
    A mark was missed.
    The peepers flinch and retract.
Upon no motion, the event is called, "closed."
A darkness explodes and is brought home with each,
the fearless daredevil had died on the beach.

    Secrets of the Abyss
    By Jessica_312

    Sonar blips,
echoes a different tone from the lapping of water
    rolling against the hull.
    The trench lies beneath,
    the seemingly endless chasm
    calling out to be explored.
    Mask and suit follow,
    protection from the dangers below.

    Breathing through a tube,
sound like the hiss of a serpent from the abyss,
and water soon gives way to the intruder.
Murky depths reluctantly fold back the curtain,
an array of colors splashing before curious eyes,
wrecked vessels remain cloaked in foreboding darkness.
The follies of a curious man
drive him further into the black.

Knowledge at the tips of his fingers,
    nearly in sight,
    driving him deeper, deeper.
The turning point has come and passed,
but ghostly outlines speak of horrors, taunting,
    remaining just out of reach.
    Day becomes night,
    the serpentine hissing is silenced.

    The depths have claimed another,
cloaking its secrets in a rolling grave.

    An Empty Abyss

What can you feel with a black heart
An empty abyss to call your own
No truth comes from his lips
    Yet another believes his lies
He told her that he could love
He didn't mean a thing he said
Yet she still comes back every time
To hear the lies she treasures
    Looking into his heart is
like looking into a black abyss
    Nobody knows that
    it is absoloutely empty
    Someday she'll see the bottom
And another will take her place
For what can you feel with a black heart
An empty abyss to call your own

    Depression
    By Froggy

    The abyss and I
    We're age old friends
    Like a lullaby
    As the day ends

    I stare at her
    She looks right back
    There as we were
    Again on track

    She's so serene
    My mind's a mess
    She knows where I've been
    And does not think less

    We dance each night
    Part through the day
    Darkness and light
    Will either hold sway?
