Weekly Poetry Contest (173) Voting - Dust

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Dec 5, 2011.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Seventy Three
    Voting

Another week with a lot of entries. This really is fantastic to see!

And this week's theme was (courtesy of Gracia Bee): Dust

Voting will end on Thursday 8th December 2011.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    You are alone.

    The sun-kissed sky sauntered
into the solidarity of Desert Night.

    Cacti posing still in silhouette,
    stretching like a delicate soul.

    But you sleep alone.

    Self sufficient and steady,
the trail goes on so long.

    Diverging slowly into
    split pieces of the start.

    And yet you ride alone.

    Like tumbleweed on track.

    Dust carried away from me.

    DUST

    as you sweep pass
    your presence felt
    slightely oppressed
    steps mark the pace
    your move is haste
    slow going fast,

    as you grin tense
    your face appeals
    not to the press
    the camera flash,
    a picture pale
    makeup undone,

    as you stand there
    looking for outs
    exits are down
    the lock are clocked,
    prospects of dim
    cling to a hymn,

    as you blow cold
    the snow has ice
    dusted and slushed
    the slopes are bare
    the clouds are in
    ava lanche melts,

    as winter floats
    mountains attract
    a pause of flakes
    about to pour
    colours of whites
    and hope is bright.

    Dust
    like slow motion manatees
    falling heavy on piano keys
    to show the negligence
    of white noised realties
    Dust
    on closet captured porcelain
    in grandmother’s grey veins
    for the remembrance
    of old nick names
    Dust
    particles from your skin
    on to manly mannequins
    the descendants
    of scented happenings

    yeah i got caught out...
middle of the street when those two big bastards came down

    they say i breathed in/ingested
glass, computers, floor, rug, jet fuel, ash ash ash

    dna

there were no amount of coughs
    that could clear those last
    bits

    I feel like Dante
    By Alycan

    I feel like Dante,
Sinking deeper and deeper into nine circless of madness.

    Constantly that realization and searching,
    For the thing I lost.

The source deep inside eaten away,
    As by an illness.

    Sinking deeper and falling,
The city of Dis is in my eyes.

The sickest imagination exhibited in a theater,
Nobody minds but sees it sooner or later.

    Charon laughing in the distance,
    Looking down on the dying.

For all we are in the end,
    Is dust.

Write this about a year ago, worked at a callcenter, worst job ever.

    Dust in Albion
    By Devrokon

The dust is withered and old about my feet
I am an old man on a road to nowhere
    Stumbling through the smoke
Lashing out at the demons I can see
With dry hands and a heavy heart
    I continue down the path
Bereft by grief, alone as always
In the dark gloom that follows me
    Wherever I may go
    And now I look down
    At my blackened weary feet
Seeing the dust in-between my toes
The yellow toenails and my eyes water
Before I turn back my head towards Albion.

    We came from the ashes,
    Even with the odds stacks,
    We maintain balance.
We are 75 in 14 Billion.

    Emotion changes character
    As water changes dust.
    Unique in etiquette.
    We are individual.

    Quarks and charges,
    Atoms and molecules.
    Are we not the same.
    Dust has relevance, like us.

If you truely love this world.
    If you understand it.
If you interpret living as a miracle.
    Would you not love dust,
    As you'd love a hobby,
    a brother, a lover?

    Memories
    By L a u r a

    Buried beneath
    Books and games,
    Pointless trinkets
    One and the same

    Lie and wait—
    The memories

    Unforgotten
    And yet untouched;
    Preserved and honored
    But covered with dust

    They yearn to feel
    Life’s warm embrace
    To escape the chambers
    Of storage space

    Who are we
    To live our lives,
    To make such memories
    And cast them aside?
