Weekly Poetry Contest (178) Voting - Controlling Relationship

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Jan 16, 2012.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Seventy Eight
    Voting

    Cursors at the ready!

And this week's theme was: (courtesy of CMacgregor93) Controlling Relationship

Voting will end on Thursday 12th January 2012.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    The Parrot
    By Immy

The smoke indulged bar is empty
Tho' always I feel I'm not alone
Guess I'm not, the bird to the side
Reminds me, it too has never flown

    Imprisoned in it's clouded cage
It cusses and splutters, all it knows
    Vibrant feathers wasted and dulled
Like me, this ain't the life I had chose

I cower as the door slams hard
    Parrot screeches blaspheme to him
And damn, I wish I had its guts
But the wire cage holds me tight and grim.

As I am questioned and rivalled
I sink deeper to an endless hole
Hands extend to unlock the cage
For our lives we flee, from reign and control.

    control is weak
    when forces meet
    to lure you down
    as far as knees,

    control is weak
    when hands are pressed
    to move you out
    as far as haste,

    control is leaked
    when minds are set
    to try you out
    no matter what,

    control is seized
    when words are slumped
    against a wall
    without a fall,

    control is lost
    when numbers are
    cramped on a poll
    bringing a tole
    of nought and more,

    control no more!
    for vain is old
    tried and tastless
    against a call
    it could not hold
    and sold it goes
    priceless and cold.

    The Day
    By Leatherworth Featherfist

In the morning when the light is unfamiliar,
and the trees, brush, and grass hold fast in silence,
staring at the horizon with me.
    That is when I think.

In the afternoon when the sun rests above me,
and I rest beneath the trees, lying in the grass,
    looking up at the leaves.
    That is when I smile.

In the evening when the sun winks away,
and the trees and the brush and the grass become one broken silhouette against the horizon.
    That is when I sleep.

    She cannot control that.
    Nor can I.
