Weekly Poetry Contest (191) Voting - Taking Time

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, May 14, 2012.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    One Hundred and Ninety One
    Voting

Read the poems, take your choice!

And this week's theme was: (courtesy of Kontrast) Taking Time

Voting will end on Thursday 17th May 2012.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    Remembering Sunday
    By Sword

The man strolls down the avenue,
His steady pace slowly passes the time,
He wishes he could start anew,
    He remembers Sunday.

Without her a second feels like forever,
But it doesn't matter because he enjoys taking his time,
He dreams as his mind wanders through the nether,
    He remembers Sunday.

In one fell swoop it became clear,
He slows to a stop as his mind strays through time,
The secret answer to his dilemma is near,
He wishes he could forget Sunday.

Wandering through life like a ghost,
He wonders why he reminisces about another time,
Then suddenly he achieves what he wants the most,
    He forgets Sunday.

I am quite the little devil
When it comes to ticks and tocks
But one thing I can’t accomplish
Is simply setting back the clock

One of two things happen, now
Either I sit by and wait to die
Or take life by the horns and
Steal the time that’s sailing by.

So when you hear that hiss
Or scary bump in the night,
    Remember me, the Chronic Thinker
And hold onto your Rolex tight.

Because I eat ticks for breakfast,
Put those tocks straight in my bank,
But in my new found everlasting
There was never time to think

About this death and my forever
And of the large universal reality
Of loved ones dying around me
    And my never changing immortality

In a thousand years, I will still be
    Where I will, I don’t now know
But in my hand, my timepiece
And I will be wondering where to go

    Tick tock I march on.
    forgotten hallowed meaningless existence.
    Why do I carry on?
    Tick tock I'm left alone.
    Abandon burden, meaningless persistence.
    Why do I carry on?
My heart beats on without cause.
When or if I'm found, it won't matter if I went on.
So why do I carry on?
My shine fades, hopeless and scorn.
    My endless feat.
    To be forgotten.
I can't carry this burden forever.
    But I can try.

    Her knobby hands
    Her saggy skin
    A joyless face
    A worried grin

    She stands and shuffles
    She sits and remembers
    The days gone bye
    The dying night embers

    In a dirty night gown
In a room, one of many
    She gets no visitors
    She hears them plenty

    A joyless face
    A worried grin
    All blows away
    When I step in
