    LITTLE BROWN MOUSE

A dog, a cat and a little brown mouse
lived together in a little green house.
They ate their food and played all day
And then a rabbit came to stay.

They lived there in that little green house,
Rabbit, the dog, the cat and brown mouse.
They ate their food and played all day
And then a blackbird came to stay.

They lived there in that little green house
Four little creatures and brown mouse.
They ate their food and played all day
And then a hedgehog came to stay.

They lived there in that little green house
Five little creatures and brown mouse.
They ate their food and played all day
Then cat meowed: ' Let's run away.'

They packed their bags before they went
They took some food. They took a tent.
But then dog barked: 'I like this house.'
'Yes! Let's stay!' squeaked little brown mouse.

Five little friends and little brown mouse
Snuffled and squealed inside their house.
So glad they did not run away
They ate their food and played all day.

    Wayfarer Small

    Wayfarer Small

    A Queen upside down,
    Ruling with a furious frown.
    A Hero his bow drawn,
Aiming true, who disappears at dawn.

    A Dancing Bear,
With a tail stretching to the moon.
A tale spoken before the fire's flare.
    A story done too soon.

    Just one more...
As between the curtains the Man in the Moon,
    Begins to soar.
A patchwork quilt, a bright cocoon.

    Shadows deepen...
    Dreams now come creepin'
    Whispering with the crickets' strings.
Billowing sheets on the backyard line become your wings.

    A sleepy smile flickers now...
Spread your wings, Wayfarer Small...you know how.
Follow the light of the firefly trail.
Hear the song of Echo play 'cross the vale.

Murmured dreams borne upon a comet's tail.
There she waits, the quiet Waif.
Eyes aglow at the start of the firefly trail.
She goes with you, Wayfarer Small, singing the lullaby to see you safe.

    A Beautiful Storm.

The sky is gray, black, and blue
The rain has not come to a stop.
The sun, long gone, is lost in the clouds
And all I can hear is "drip-drop"

Here and there, the thunder will roar
    Bringing it's big flashly lights.
When will it stop? It's so very sad,
It's been going on all night.

For now I must sleep, and get some rest
I will rise in the early morn'.
Hoping for sunlight when I awake,
    Instead of this horrible storm.

Now being dawn, I begin to wake up,
    My senses slowly revive.
What is that I see? Sunlight at last?
Is the world coming back alive?

The singing of birds, barking of dogs,
I hear as I walk out the door.
And to my surprise when I look outside,
I begin to find even more.

A rainbow, a rainbow! How beautiful and bright,
With red, pink, purple and green.
Now I know why, why we have such storms,
    Now I truly see.

    Costa (Hummingbird)

    Costa

    Humm
    Buzz
    Zip
It’s not my voice but my fast beating wings
    Over

    Down
    and
    Under
    Up

I court my lovely dark feathered bride
    Mmmmmm
    I sip all day
    Mmmmmm
On sweet nectar half my body weight
    Iridescent colors stream
As I whip through the air so carelessly
    Nectar smooth and sticky sweet
It’s one treat that can’t be beat
Green and blue and purple too
    eerily hovering wingless illusion
    Beardtongue and persimmon blooms
On each I dine and make my food
In the desert’s where I live
    Soaking up sizzling Sonoran sun
    Red is my favorite color
Under its power I am defenseless
Don’t think my size make me delicate
I’m one third muscle and two thirds guts

    Black Sheep

    Baa, baa, black sheep,
    Have you any wool?

    No, not after you
    pushed me off
    the playground swing
    and cut my hair off
    with blunt scissors
    just because
    I’m a different color.

    Grass in the Wind

    Grass in the Wind

    Flowing like an ocean
    Dancing in the sun
    The grass of the meadow
    Is having some fun.

    Why who could this be?
    Little Danny meadow mouse
    Peeking round the tree
    Look! Off he goes
    Through the wispy sea.
