Weekly Poetry Contest (206) Voting - Mind Tricks

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Sep 4, 2012.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    Two Hundred and Six
    Voting

They can take our lives, but they'll never take our poetry contest!

And this week's theme was: (courtesy of *Katie) Mind Tricks

Voting will end on Thursday 6th August 2012.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    THE LOVE ILLUSION
    By Agatha Christie

    Is love blind?
    Is it an illusion,
    A mirage,
    A trick of the mind?
    Is it real?
    Or is it something
    In the air,
    That wafts about
    In the breeze
    Then disappears
    Without a care?
    When it happens,
    It makes us heady.
    We believe in miracles.
    When loves hits,
    The mind's not steady.
    We're enveloped in wonder,
    We're on 'cloud nine.'
    Another powerful,
    Overwhelming
    Trick of the mind.

    Beware of Mind
    By Wolfwig

    Mind the mind
    with ravenous appetite,
begging to tease from its poor, nescient neighbor
    a moment’s reflection or
    tasty treat;

    Leaping for
show and chasing its long tail,
it may roll over and play dead just to gain
    attention, then glimmer with
    pride or glee.

    Leave it be;
do not feed or provoke it,
lest you should be torn to bits in playful guile
    with your defenses at rest,
    unawares.

    The mind
    By Eva-Athena

As the light slips and fades
And the darkness plummets from above
    Logic loses it’s grip
My mind soars as a dove.

What is real, what is fake?
    What is better left alone?
For in the eyes of the soul
    My mind has truly flown.

And as dusk slips to dawn
    Fantasy becomes cast away
And as the mind falls back to earth
It shall be stored for another day.

    A Trick of the Mind
    By Sword

Never more is the currency of the mind.
Gonna have to leave your past desires behind.
Give away all your worldly possessions.
    You soar you fly.
Up towards the heavens to rid yourself of heinous confessions.

Never more is the haven of your figure .
Gonna have to be buried before you become rigor.
Let your body waste away to dust.
    You lay inside a coffin.
Down your lifeblood stays blood stained like rust.

Never more are the words from your tongue.
Gonna have to admit there were lies by the ton.
Run away from the abode of your vocabulary.
Around you stumble in the web of your calumny.
    And with no mouth
    Desert your tragic ways.
You will never heed nor sway.

With this my poem comes to an end.
Read the first word of every sentence again.

    “Illusion.”
    By Program

He states it in a simple voice
but it never is his choice
    to turn the bluish turquoise
clear or ever utilize the destructive malice.

    He employs a clever
    System. for his schemes to
carry out, and by the time you see
the tragic im print(“Illusion.”); on your computer screen

all you do is wonder why
    and focus on and ponder
how such a blunder came about
    strange punctuation throughout.
