    • No editing of entries once posted without my express permission (i.e. PM me and ask).
    • Poems must be titled
    • Entries must not have previously posted on the forums, and are not permitted to be posted for critique until AFTER the contest is completed.
    • Any violation of these rules will result in disqualification of entries, and possibly infraction.

The entry stage will be open for seven days, closing on Monday 10th September 2012.

The voting stage will begin immediately, and will be open for three days, ending on Thursday 13th September 2012.

And this week's theme is: (courtesy of nomadpenguin) The Sound of Silence

The next (208th) contest's theme will be (courtesy of Britannica): Woodland, and it will be opened on Monday 10th September 2012[/COLOR].

    ABSURDITYOF SILENCE

    “…............................

    …............................?

    .............................

    ….............................”
    Silence is a hindrance
    A nuisance in an instance

    “….............................

    ….............................

    …............................?

    …............................”
    Silence is a lark
Just leaves us in the dark

    “…...........................

    …...........................

    …...........................

    …...........................”

    Silence is frustrating
    Brings anger in relating
    “…...............................

    …...............................

    …...............................!

    …...............................”

    Silence be forbidden
    Speech is best not hidden

    MY SILENCE

    Silence crashes the party
like a cold bucket of water.
It rings and chimes until you notice,
    turns your head.
    Silence demands to be heard;
    closes over your ears:
    invisible, intangible,
and though you shake your head
    Silence clings,
    Like glue,
    Like sickly honey
    Dripping over your senses.
You can't hear your own voice.
    Silence takes you –
    an absence, a nothing
    that stands where you stood
    claiming to be you,
    And all who walks pass
    glances through empty space,
    Looking for something
    that was.

    The Four Senses of Silence
Visual beauties are found through the eyes,
Like the clouds dancing in the skies.
Textural wonders are found through touch,
Like getting a massage that I love so much.
Exotic aromas are found through smells,
Like an apple pie that the bakery sells.
Sweet pleasures are found through taste,
Like cupcakes that expand the waist.
Whimsical melodies are found through hearing,
    Like…
What if you live in the world of silence?
You can’t hear the music’s brilliance.
How can you describe what you don’t hear,
I can tell you now, without fear.
Whimsical melodies are found through touch,
Like waves crashing down into my clutch.
    Just because you cannot hear,
Doesn’t mean you let the world disappear.
The sound of silence is controlled,
By the other four senses, such a sight to behold.

    Gone

The last thing to leave was the rattling car-
metal junk clunking as wheels hit the road.
I watched till there was naught to watch anymore

then followed my old feet back inside.

I expected to hear a voice in the room
but even the clock on the wall had given up
and the roses outside, always fully in bloom

now brown and withered, had died.

The wind moved the trees, but it did so unheard
and the old kitchen floor refused to creak.
when a cough left my mouth, it was almost absurd

I silenty let out a sigh.

And I awake at night, with noise all around.
I panic, and with wide open eyes I stare.
But it is dark, and empty, and all I can hear
    is the pounding drums
    from silence’s sound.

    Treacherous Silence

The sound of silence is everywhere and near.
    in heaven and space,
...the blackness that separates the stars and also... men misunderstood.

Silence is the witness to secrets untold and kept hidden
buried in the hearts of transgressors.

Silence hears and sees all when it goes unnoticed by those who think
there has been no witness, no soothsayer... only themselves and the grim treachery
that consumes their heart and soul.
