Weekly Poetry Contest (214) Voting - Remember

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Nov 19, 2012.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    Two Hundred and Fourteen
    Voting

    Vote, and vote often!

And this week's theme was: (courtesy of me) Remember

Voting will end on Thursday 22nd November 2012.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    The Grieved
    By Selbbin

He sat there on the dry creek bed,
Amongst his friends, now all dead.
He stared at them and wondered why,
He should live, and they should die.

    They spoke to him.

    'You may be breathing brother,
But sure as hell you're dead.
You don't need to catch the lead.
You died the day you landed here,
The earliest you felt the fear,
When you killed a man that had been loved,
That had a wife to shed a tear.
    ...What will your Emma say?
Emma, who waits so far away.'

'Oh god Emma, you're so proud,
Of your 'Hero' across the sea.
You think I fight so you'll be free.
But I just kill to see another day,
Stealing souls so I may steal away,
And kiss you like the day I’d disappear,
When I smiled and said "don’t worry, I’ll be here".
Yet who I was I left in Neptune’s den,
Then came ashore with other soulless men,
And in this dark new beings we became,
Until this hell had made us all the same.

    Emma,
You can’t ever see me as I’ve now become,
Nor can I tell you things I've seen and done.
That I abandoned all I once believed.
    Engulfed in mindless murder,
    And adding to the grieved.
Hate of me is payment for this crime,
If I should reach to touch you one more time
The blood I stole will take without a trace,
All that ever mattered in this place.
    Your love.'

The dead call forth their breathing friend…

'Join us here, amongst the brave,
We'll lie together in our grave,
Brothers born of fear and hate,
    Barred from passing Heaven's gate.
    We'll reminisce, of honour past,
Those days that will forever last.
Join the dead, your time has come,
And rest with us, forever young.'

He took a breath, and with a smile,
    Spoke unto the rotting pile…
'Like those before us, I can't die.
My blood will rise each morning sky.
I'll walk in dreams of those I loved,
    and who loved me.
In memories, and things they see,
    I'll live forever.'

He put a gun against his head,
Then joined the legions of the dead.

    Beautiful Mistake
    By Darkkin

    Running, a creature possessed.
    Spinning, a loon...
    World awry.

    A different drummer.
    An unheard song.
    Plays on....

    Mismatched socks.
    Shoes on wrong.
Right is left, no, back again.

    Push...pump.
    Kiss the breeze.
    High and low, tangled hair.

    Bubbles, spectrum bright.
Missing, a guardian against the night.
    Magic lingers.

    A meeting with the ground.
    Stinging knees.
    Sticks and stones.

    Harsh words, cutting tongues.
    Slicing deep...
From a blackened eye a tear learned to creep...

    Beautiful mistake...
    Words of comfort, of love.
    Hope renewed, a simple hug.

Remember the beautiful mistake...that is life.

    Sleep now
    By turquoisia

    Remember
    before the warm memories
    are taken away
    like glittering shooting stars
    streaming in a moment's glory
    before they disappear
    never to be seen again.

    Even if you forget,
    remember
    the tears we shared,
    the fears we faced.
    Always
    laughing together,
    pulling through
    to the end,
    hand in hand.

    Even if everything
    is taken away from you,
    never forget this feeling
    since the day we met
    the bottomless well
    of joy and love,
    of eternal friendship.

    If our world
    fades
    into oblivion,
    I will remember you.
    Your kindness
    that you gave
    so freely
    and your
    sacrifice.

    The world may find ways
    to set us apart,
    a never-ending wall
    separating us. But
    stones and bricks
    may stand in our way,
    but they will never
    sever this friendship.

    If all your memories
    of this place and time
    is erased
like a blank in your life
    remember
    that we will remember you.

    Memory Tree
    By Love to Write

Listening to stories before falling asleep
Getting mud on your pants while into a mud puddle you leap

Leaving cookies and milk for Santa Claus to find
Getting a pet of your own for the very first time

    Treasuring memories such as these,
Makes more beautiful, my memory tree.

Sleeping at the house of your very best friend
Riding on a rollercoaster that never seems to end

Passing your drivers ed test on the very first try
While hanging out with friends, time seems to fly

    Treasuring memories such as these,
Makes more beautiful, my memory tree.

Marrying the man God has in mind for me.
Living happily with chidren, numbering three.

Working at job that I love and pays well.
Finishing the story that I've always wanted to tell.

When these memories come to pass, my nightmares and dreams,
They will be placed on that thing, I call my memory tree.

    We shall remember them
    By Daniel Tomlinson

    We shall remember them,
    Those who died,
    without a name.
    Those who died,
    Who lost their lives,
    Left loved ones behind,
    To protect the free,
    We shall remember them.

    We shall remember them,
    Those who went,
    Across the seas,
    Who went to fight,
    To make a stand,
    To protect the free,
    We shall remember them.

    We shall remember them,
    Those who left,
    Never to return,
    Left their children
    Left their wives,
    To protect the free,
    We shall remember them.

    We shall remember them,
    Leave them not in damnation,
    But with pride,
    Let their spirits free,
    Those who died,
    To protect the free,
    We shall remember them.

    We shall remember them,
    Clear the names,
    Of the marshalled,
    They fought for the free,
    Saw friends in pieces,
    Brothers in arms,
    Torn apart,
    To protect the free,
    We shall remember them.

    December
    By JessWrites

    I turn the calendar page,
    Smiling at December,
    As I remember…

    Pulling in the driveway,
    Seeing the door open wide,
Running up the porch steps with presents piled high.

    A hearty hello Dad bellows,
With cheerful voices replying in echo.

    Stepping into the living room,
    Loving what I see,
    The tree sparkling,
    The train whistling,
    The candles glowing,
All the while, my family smiling back at me.

    Grandpa in his chair,
    Aunt at the door,
    Uncle at the table,
And my cousins on the floor.

    The gang is here,
    Well, all but one.
    Though I don’t see her,
    I know Grandma is near,
By the smells wafting in the air.

    While catching up we eat,
    Treats that are sweet.
    Content sighs fill the room,
And soon enough our bellies are full.

    One by one,
    We begin opening gifts,
While laughing at Grandpa throwing a fit
    About saving paper.

    Saying good-bye passed my bedtime,
I give out each hug and kiss.
    Whenever the old clock chimes,
    Those days I dearly miss.

    Months went on,
    Turning to years,
    Time passed with many tears.

    Christmas isn't quite the same,
But my memories will always remain.

    December,
    I still remember.

    Remember?
    Remember what!
Remember a day when life wasn't quite so gray?

Blunt accusations of an inability to communicate.
Nobody wants to hear of the feelings that even I hate.

They pretend they want to know what I have to say,
    always asking if I'm okay.

A pretense of sincerity shrouds my life,
if I said half the things I think it would surely cause strife.

    False words for false friends,
the monotony causes my heart to rend.

    No man is an island?
Scoff! A confidant is not in demand.

    Unsure of my fate,
    internal monologue always a debate.

    Constant turmoil, flip and flop.
For the tears I've shed, I need a mop.
