Weekly Poetry Contest (220) - The Idealistic Experience

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Jan 1, 2013.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    Two Hundred and Twenty

First day of the year, first poetry contest of the year!

    The Rules
    • All entries must be on the set theme.
    • Only one entry per member.
    • No editing of entries once posted without my express permission (i.e. PM me and ask).
    • Poems must be titled
    • Entries must not have previously posted on the forums, and are not permitted to be posted for critique until AFTER the contest is completed.
    • Any violation of these rules will result in disqualification of entries, and possibly infraction.

The entry stage will be open for six days, closing on Monday 7th January 2013.

The voting stage will begin immediately -- provided, of course, we're still here -- and will be open for three days, ending on Thursday 10th January 2013.

And this week's theme is: (courtesy of Jonathan22) The Idealistic Existence

The next (221st) contest's theme will be (courtesy of Timewalker): Nothingness (starting off 2013 on a positive note...) and it will be opened on Monday 7th January 2013.

Be imaginative, have fun, and get writing.

    Banzai

PS: If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. I don't bite (much).

    "A pleasurable activity?"

    To ponder the strife
    Ripe within the soul,
    Under which the knife
    That pierces us whole,
    Hark, the ideal life!

    "Dreams in the Soil"

    Dust takes leave of earth
    Swirling
    Drifting
    No quarter with my dreams
    Defy the seeds

    Expansive fields across the plains
    Stretching
    Yawning
Final rest of hopes on high
    Defy, defy

    Leaders soaring spirits move
    Booming
    Acting
    Pawns to gather rye
    Still seeds defy

    Visions linger fertile hands
    Working
    Failing
    Curse the godless dry
    Defy

    “Measure, of Man”

    Delights and pleasures
    so oft-expressed
    desires

    Crags of thought
    seeping with
    wishes

    We strive, strive,
    strive to
    strive

    Amorphic by design,
    impossible we
    divine

    Garden Party:

Cocktails drift in the mottling sun.
Stir of white and garment flutters,
    Stare of each consuming….

What it is about you I dare not elongate.
    I manage not a whisper.

    Lawn urges our summer vigil;
    The kiss; measured by silence.

Alas, New York has such abundant charm.

    The Symphony

    He runs, It Runs.
    He screams, It laughs
    He walks, It lurks.
    He jumps, It pounces.
He’s ready to fight, It’s ready to kill.
He kills it, It kills him.

Following the footprints in the sand...
    Simple

    Simple...

    A beating heart, steady, warm...
A lee, sheltered from the coming storm...

Enough means to make it through...
A second chance to begin anew...

Enough courage to hold my own...
Protecting the small until they are grown...

    Fighting the good fight...
Knowing it is futile, but so very right...

    Music a mere hum away...
Never forgetting to know how to play...

    More smiles than frowns...
And never admitting a fear of clowns...

    Harsh words forgiven...
    A smile returned...

    Simple.
