Weekly Poetry Contest (223) Voting - Architect

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Jan 28, 2013.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    Two Hundred and Twenty Three
    Voting

    Vote, and vote often!

And this week's theme was: (courtesy of Admin) Architect

Voting will end on Thursday 31st January 2013.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    Stark, neat...
    An adjective gone.
    No adverb...
    A word done wrong.

    Linear, organized.
    Concise and excised.
    A tract of words.
    In a technical form.

    Wright style lines...
    Angles at ninety...
A grade of seven degrees, but no more.
A medium of stone, of ink...

    Clean lines, details bright.
    Much more chaotic,
    Than the style of Wright.

Young Mabeline sat and imagined her castle -
    Two turrets and towering walls,
As mounds of green grass and blue sparkling water
Trailed down from the thundering falls.

“What are you building” her mother soon asked
Of young Mabeline crouched on the floor.
“I’m building a moat and inside of it, mother,
I’m building my castle’s great door.”

“I’m building a home for my teddy, dear mother,
And the dolly with only one arm
For the elephant there on the shelf all alone
And my piggy who hasn’t a farm.”

“I’m building a palace of small plastic bricks
All in yellow and red and bright blue
I’m building a dream, mother dearest of mine,
For them and for me and for you.”

    It was a slow process
A creation of something so stiff, so... geometrically correct
    The pencil retraced lines
    creating rooms, stairwells, specific selects

A timely manner, but worthwhile endeavor
"A Peice of History" they'd say
An artwork that people could wear down
And after they're gone, there it would stay

Not just a building- a skyscraper
Not just an office- an outreach to the sky
Another part of New York City
A physical place, of humans rising high

We'll build tall things to show our status
Weald them with sweat and fire
Make them strong to show our strength
Left there to sit there and inspire
