Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Torana, Apr 10, 2008.

    The
    40th
    Poetry Contest

    The commandments:

    * The poem must be based on the theme I set if not it will not be entered.
    * Only one poem per member or they will be deleted and you will be stricken from the contest.
    * No editing a poem once it is submitted without prior permission. So please PM me before you edit you poems or I will have no choice but to not enter your piece for voting.
    * The poems are to be entered into this thread.
    * No soliciting votes. Do not ask people to vote for you, or attempt to cheat the system. You will be caught, and then I'll have to think of some suitable punishment for you.
    * Put the title at the beginning of your poem. Otherwise it will be removed from the contest and you will be notified by PM.

The entry stage will end in five days, on 15th April, 2008, whereupon voting will be opened.

The voting stage will end after three days, on 18th April, 2008. The winner will have their poem stickied in the Poetry Thread for a week following their victory.

This week's theme (courtesy of Myself) is: Tetractys

For understanding of what a Tetractys is click on the provided link:
<It is found on the 12th line of the second row. Click there and it will take you to the description and give an example as well.>

Be imaginative and have fun :) Please PM any suggestions for future themes to myself and they will be used in the order in which they are received.

PS. Any questions which haven't been answered in this thread should be directed to myself.

    Gone

My heart cries out in memory of you
    I cease to breathe
    and to live
    I am
    Gone

okay, lets see what I got in me.

    Sleep, my Princess.
Let me whip those tears, fear no more princess
    There are no ghouls
    Please slumber
    You are
    Safe

    Open Letter

    Earth,
    both sphere
    and dear friend,
    you bathe adrift:
a vast, volatile soup of no real end.
Fiery factions vye for your attention
    and breezily
    brew tension
    amidst
    nought.
    Earth,
    sorry.
    I appal
    you and I am
but ephemeral and damned - aren't we all?

    The Makings of a Heart

    Life,
    And love.
    Death and hate.
    For human minds
Our world revolves around these things of thought
Churning within us and pumping our blood
    The things of dreams
    For they live,
    Breathe in
    Hearts.

    The Siege

The surf explodes upon black rugged rocks
    a roaring beast
    dashed against
    fortress
    crag.
    Pause.
    Hissing,
    foam retreats
    back to the sea,
marshalling rage to launch the next assault.

    The Salute

    The Salute

    What
    Is this
    Which prompts me?
    I am pushed up
A crooked stance; I stand in full salute
Before the one I have never seen, yet
    I have seen, he
    Stooped, he bent
    His knee
    I
    Stand in
    Full salute
    Before my Lord,
My God, my King who raised this crooked me.

    Night Terror

    Wake
    Cold Sweat
    Heavy breath
    Disillusion
Resonating sounds echo in the mind.
Emotions from a vivid, haunting dream
    Without reason
    No image
    Feeling
    Fear.

    Blue and green gem

    Earth.
    Spinning
    green and blue
    gem on blackness.
    Lonely, separated from her sisters,
dancing a magic circle round the fire.
    Casting a spell
    to see stars
    in her
    heart

    Sensorium

    Soft
    Robust
    Be it words
    Or be it purrs
I lusted for every sound of your voice
For when you spoke, I could hold no defense
    Needing only
    Whispers of
    Music's
    Grasp
    Now
    Waking
    My eyes see
    Words unquenching
Because a love without vision is lost
    For sights create chromatic desire
    Dreaming designs
    Of beauty's
    Vivid
    Pain

    Slow death

    Heart
    Beating
    In my chest
    Betraying me
Decaying inch by inch taking its sweet time

    Girls
    from the
    far off land
    of pretty Norway
go to Hollywood and dream of making it big,
and macho men all the way over from Greenwich
    live off lousy snacks,
    see their dreams
    put to
    death,
    and
    at the
    end of just
    another long year
it's back home they rush to, tired of the life.
But then again every random snowy and frosted new year
    a new batch comes,
    with new hopes
    and new
    dreams,
    living
    in the
    illusion they will
    differ, not knowing,that
like ever before Hollywood remains the same and
that when the year ends again Hollywood will send
    Yet another batch
    home to
    pick
    the
    broken pieces
    of gone yesterday
and in coming years too only few will reach there
when others wander like you, and some dream like me,
    of making it big
    in the web
    of Holly-
    Wood

    A_Effort.

    Bleed;
    Splashes
    Of dark red
    Slash perfection.
    The ink seems infinite; never-ending.

    At the grave

    A
    simple
    look - my soul
    interred, 'neath ash
and stone and embers red which burned, so bright,
the shadows of the night. The night you loved.
    While whispers of
    forgotten
    words grow
    here,
    I
    hear the
    ghost who wove
    my tale. He stands
now o'er the grave holding a heart in hand,
"a bitter heart that bides its time and bites" -
    as I impart
    the lover's
    light of
    dreams.
