Weekly Poetry Contest (92) Voting - Splinter

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Aug 21, 2009.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    Ninety Two
    Voting

The contest is closed, and voting shall now commence!

This week's theme (courtesy of Lydia) is: Splinter

Voting will end on Monday 24th August 2009.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

There is no prize to be won here, you can not claim you are an award winning poet, so as you can see, cheating really is pointless here!

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    I want it out
    I need it out
    It hurts so much
Stuck in me like a love sick child
    Is enveloped in it’s infatuation.
    It tears from the inside
    Working deeper to my core
I dig and cut and pry and cry
    Making worse the situation
    I want it out
    I need it out
    A sweet release
I learn to cope and the pain subsides
    One night while sleeping
My weary mind forgetting the inhabitant of my body
    It works its way forward
    Into the world quietly
Leaving nothing more than an empty hole.

    Itsy-bitsy piece of wood,
Would you harm me if you could?

    Small, smaller than I can see;
Would you ever sneak up on me?
Should I fear to hug a tree,
In doubts that you will prick me?

    Oh tiny forgotten piece,
Will you not please stop and cease?
This grudge will you not release,
So that we can be at peace?

    Itsy-bitsy piece of wood,
I'd rather be friends, if we could.

    my splinter.
    By zebra

In the middle of my heart,
    underneath tough-looking skin,
    a little slice of wood.
    I called him Splinter.
    I loved him at first,
    kept him there for company.
    He made me feel strong.
Then, I grew tired of Splinter,
    an ache growing where he'd
    lodged himself.
    I begged him to leave.
    No luck.
So I grabbed him and pulled
    with all my might,
    to no avail.
    Splinter was determined to stay.
    And he did.
    He's still there, tucked away,
    infecting my barely beating heart.
    An ache, a friend.

    Just beneath my skin, infected.

    Sleek, sharp thongs
    Stab my flesh,
    Puss oozes.

Relief as I glide the splinter out
    Blood fills the hollow
    And trickles down my hand.

    A lesson in pain
    By Hindumaliman

    I rub against a tree
but it won't leave me be
    It sticks around
    runs aground
    into my flesh
    an agonizing mesh
    In this pain
    neither of us will gain
Then I think a thoughtful thinking
    awash in discomfort
    my animosity sinking
This tree is showing me its hurt
    it tells me the story
every drop of blood in the dirt
    This tree is all seeing
    forever in being
    In immobility, freeing
and I gain a mere sliver of its story

Many may know of his story
His master destroyed by an evil evil man
    Freed in the battle
But freedom from vegeance is harder

    Transformed into a master himself
With the discovery of four artists
    Four hard shelled friends
    Four sons from the water

    Years fly as they do
    But evil lies vanquished
    Justice is served
Life is good for Master Splinter

There was once a time of grandeur.
There was once a sense of self.
There was once a part of a whole.
There was once a single glory.
Yet in a single concussive instant,
Yet in a lone explosive event,
    We have been torn asunder.
    We have been rent apart.
We are now one and many.
We are now all and none.
Here I am, Once an oak.
Here I am, Now a splinter.
    Here I am,
    Alone.

    last night's parting shot
is bass booms and thrashes a
hard throbbing laugh in the back of the
head you shattered and splintered every part
a part from last night's party shivering
apart in the cold air and reforming in
    the morning misshapen and miss
ing little pieces of you pick
them up later full of blur
    red details and mis
    sing part
    s and
    laugh

    My hand is slightly shaking
    as I burn the memories
    I throw away your image
    your existence, piece by piece.
    Yet there is one remainder
    a splinter, little thing
too small to pull it out
    but big enough to sting.

    Schism
    By Gannon

    Quietly bathed in subjugated sunlight,
green dream-clouds crown the great father-oak.
An over-size shadow conceals a timeless torso,
in turn, a hollow fist (not hand). It splits at the wrist.

Scurry-some fingers beetle beneath this pleasant land
    and now, excommunicated and scattered,
all tapered into obscure outposts of secession,
they ignite, too far fallen from the branch.

For untold time, I toiled in sweat
    With only her in mind
I worked and strove, in priceless debt
To pay her deeds in kind

At the pier on sunset's spring
    I searched for strength inside
To give my cherished ruby ring
For the girl to be my bride

As I knelt with my one request
    I peered into her face
With my fervor at last confessed
    I welcomed her warm embrace

Night was born, moon was blue
As we waltzed in starlight haze
The romance felt, a love so true
    She returns a violet gaze

The girl with eyes of amethyst
    Endowed in scarlet hair
With her palm on my cheek, she firmly kissed
And bedazzled me with her stare

    _______________________________

Time had stopped, space was still
    An affinity had begun
Yearning for love, the tender will
For our hearts to beat as one

The bond we shared was all that mattered
    Forgetting all our fears
But in a blink, our bliss was shattered
    As it smoldered into tears

    Malevolence near, a repulsive scent
    A groggy drunken fellow
    Teetering tipsy with malicious intent
    Wielding an edged stiletto

Lancing his blade towards my wife
    I take his dagger away
Into his chest, I thrust this knife
I shall save her, come what may!

    Red was spilled, flesh dispersed
But the blood was not my own
Stained on me, smeared and cursed
    For a lifetime to atone

Behind the hollow bars I slept
    To breathe concrete as air
In my heart, her smile I kept
    And nothing else was there

    _______________________________

Seasons passed as I regret the mistake
    From spring to blanched winter
The prick in my chest, a tormenting ache
It was nothing but a splinter

    Fifty years, in walls encased
And at last they've set me free
But the love I devote has not been erased
    Unfaltering like a tree

My bride, my bride, where is she now?
Oh did she yield to time?
Has she forsaken the eternal vow
And shunned me for my crime?

I look high and low to find Juliet
    Not knowing where to go
    I reminisce a mem'ry I could not forget
    The pier from long ago

At that pier on sunset's spring
    A woman sings alone
Admiring the glint of a ruby ring
And the radiant sun that shone

She waits until the stars adorn
As she glances at the moon
A cerulean crescent, is tonight reborn
Saying, "I shall meet him soon."

    The denouement was
    By rover

    The denouement was
    a dream; extinct now.
    The dream inspired
    disaster; I’ll explain how.

    She was the Eve
    to my Adam in Eden
    reclaimed.

    And I the apple
    to her taste, forbidden,
    unclaimed.

    Like fire we came
    to touch;
    and fire that burnt
    as much.

    We loved to smoke
    and smolder;
    and stoked the flame,
    turned bolder.

    And in that furnace
    a dream was forged;
    two hearts in ardor
    thus engorged.

    We vowed to live
    as hellfire never still;
    and fueled, the flame
    maddened with our will.

    Till all that was left
    was cinder;
    and all I could do
    was hinder.

    It was done;
    the ash said it loud.
    The fire of our pride
    Had consumed us, proud.

    Grace was now
    An impossible crest;
    And the apple, now bitten,
    A ruined test.

    So I let her go
    with the apple stuck
    in the scalded way
    of her breathing, strained.

    And I was left
    with the apple's twig-
    a splinter driven through
    my soul, seething, maimed.

    sharp slivered shard
    By vangoghsear

    working with wood,
    when one day,
    a sharp slivered shard slipped
    beneath my skin
    drawing blood and
    my attention
    to take it away.

    I pulled the beast
    from there beneath
    with tweezers and a pin
    I have no doubt
    that though it’s out,
    I’ll have another
    again.
