Weekly Poetry Contest (97) Voting - Guilt

Discussion in 'Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest Archives' started by Banzai, Sep 27, 2009.

    Weekly
    Poetry Contest
    Ninety Seven
    Voting

The contest is closed, and voting shall now commence! Apologies for the delay in starting the voting this week, I've been a little busy.

This week's theme is (courtesy of K~la): Guilt

Voting will end on Wednesday 30th September 2009.

Voting for yourself is entirely at your own discretion. I'm frankly sick of discussion on the matter, so any in here will be deleted. If you want to vote for yourself, go for it, but I personally wouldn't do that unless I genuinely believed mine was the best.

The winning poem will be stickied for a week in the poetry contest.

Oh, and if I catch anyone cheating, their entry will be removed from the contest and you will be unable to enter a poem into the contest for a month. Sorry to be such an ogre about this, I don't want to be, but rules are rules and are in place for valid reasons. If you can not follow the rules, you face the consequences.

There is no prize to be won here, you can not claim you are an award winning poet, so as you can see, cheating really is pointless here!

Best of luck to all entrants, and happy voting.

    Dark hallways
    Never ending
    Always turning
    Always Bending
    Feet running
    Breath gasping
    Darkness creeping
    Guilt grasping
    Mortals mourning
    Evidence burning
    Escape granting
    Detective Learning
    Jail avoiding
    Country leaving
    Life resuming
    Stop thieving
    Married Guilt.

    All I wanted
    was to smash the cake,
leave in a pit of fury
    everything in my wake.

    but humbly i sat
    despising the thought,
    how could I ruin
    everything they wrought?

    My Hemmed In Rose Courtyard
    By surgecat

The fabric in my hands stained by tears,
Deathly flowers lapsing from summers heat,
Like my mind turned to fire.
    Icy fingers bunched in knots,
Hung by rope from the ceiling fan we ordered.
Undo the knots, pull away on the handkerchief left,
Tomorrow I try alone to end my woes.
Gather that strength, sing in pride,
    Die in the tides.
Turning my soul, over and over again.
Washing in and out the creases of my mistakes!
Again I have to crawl to the edge, hemmed in by,
    Where did we go wrong?
Did I not give her the money?
Didnt I say I loved her?
Rose quartz the courtyard where we made our first embrace.
    I gather together and implode.
Crimson ending my guilt, rose turned to blood.
How quickly does the color of life darken the love of your wife?
    I want it to end.

    Lost last Autumn
    By sophie.

Blackberries are out early this year.
I think of you, of us back then
walking up the hill home in fading light.
Grubbing in the bushes grabbing for berries
just out of reach. We laughed
    and compared our scratches.
    A bitter-sweet taste still lingers.

Today I'm alone as I pick. Stuff
    soft clusters in my pockets,
before turning home without a shadow.
When I reach to fish them out again
my fingers are inked with their stain.
    Crushed handfuls, useless, reproach.
I should have taken more care.
    And so should you.

    He really didn't mean it
    He didn't mean to chew
He only meant to clean it,
    Make it sparkle shiny new!

But it was oh so tempting
    While licking clean that shoe
He really couldn't help it Dad,
    He didn't mean to chew!

It felt so soft and squishy
    Between his needle teeth,
    That lovely chewy leather
    With a hard sole underneath

    I'm sure he's very sorry
You can see it in his face -
It looks so sad and sorrowful,
    He knows he's in disgrace

So please don't be too harsh with him,
    He won't do that again
I'll keep him out of trouble now,
You know how good he's been!

And Dad, I have to ask you,
He really wants me to -
Since that one there is ruined
Could he have the other shoe?

    A gentle squeeze,
    a finger's spastic twitch
    and then a popping shout:
    I guess I'm a real man now.

    I don't know what I thought
    I would feel, but
    it wasn't this.

    Maybe guilt would worm
its icy tendrils through my veins
and chill my life like that body cools
    now on Baghdad's streets.

    But, there's nothing.

Just the itch in my finger
and the stain in my mind to
remind me of that fatal moment.

    Silent Confession
    By K~la

    Just like the "Tell-Tale Heart"
    my pulse is beating
    louder than any drum.
    Thought it would be easier,
    the blueprints in my head
had not prepared me for this.
    Perfectly planned, precise
    I followed each instruction
    down to the very last
    pea-sized nail in his coffin.

Yet I cannot seem to wash
    the blood from my hands.
Am I capable of keeping up
    this peaceful charade?
No doubt they will see me
    losing control
    shaking
    shifting eyes.

    The weight of the devil
    is too much for me.
    One last look at disgrace
    in my bathroom mirror
    before pulling the trigger,
    taking with me forever
    my dirty little secret.

    Summer
    By Gannon

    A haze-baked home melts into tickling grasses;
scattering wild-flowers pulse in the sunny breeze.

Some bold admiral flits and pivots, fluttering
    into stream-scarred skies, fruit-filled hedges,
beneath great boughs, then gone. But never the gaze.

With torn paces, green sea is beheld afresh,
    bejewelled by spluttering, blood-red tractor,
swelling contour, naked stalk and ducking buds.

Astride a styal, both left and right, the dapples buzz and play.
Behind me, the humming lapses to silence.
