    Contest Medals

Discussion in 'Announcements' started by Wreybies, Mar 24, 2014.

With the dissolution of the old green cube reputation program we have installed a new digital badges and medals system based on the winning of contests within the forum.

Winners of the yearly grand prize will receive a large digital plaque, which is already visible in the member badges of the 2013 Sci-Fi Contest Winners. Winners of the bi-weekly short story, flash fiction, and poetry contests will receive a digital badge for their winning writing.

First time winners get a bronze badge:
    Second time is silver:
    Third and up are gold:

Each badge will contain as part of the graphic, the contest # that was won. The badges are clickable icons that take any member who has clicked them to a floating window displaying all the awards the member has won and also includes a link for each medal back to the thread in which their winning piece of writing can be read and commented upon.

Over the next week I will be retroactively awarding badges to our past contest winners so that everyone is included, all the way back to Contest #1 when the forum started. I began last night, so you may have noticed some already. :)

@Wreybies deserves a lot of beer and pizza (and bacon - can't forget bacon) for doing this for us!

    Big cheers, Wrey! :)

Awesome! Thanks, Wrey :) T and I can't promise we'll be able to ship bacon your way (might be hazardous materials by the time it reaches you), but you can have a big plateful of e-bacon :)

Thank you! This is awesome. It's something that's been suggested several times in the past few years and is something I've wanted to do for a while, but never had the time to implement. You did it in a few days. Thanks Wrey!

I'm sure you guys can figure it out on your own, but it might be worth mentioning that you can view a full list of awarded contest medals here.

Thanks for the appreciation, folks. :)

I just finished the Short Story Contests. There are a few sequential skips that were simply accidental skips by the contest admins and two where I could not find the winner for the contest.

As of now @Domoviye is our most decorated member :)

    Now for the poems.... ;)

Before I continue with the Poetry Contest, and before any hey, maybe you shoulda's, should we use a different medal for Poetry?

It's important to me that there be an aesthetic continuity with anything we choose. I chose the medals that are already awarded mainly for their color palate and texture, which matches well with the Xenforoâ„¢ platform theme.

I like the idea of a different medal for poetry, same color scheme.

You could use different color quills, inkwells, etc.

I had toyed with the idea of making use of our logo quill as a medal itself. These are roughs I made a while back.

I like them but perhaps the poets should decide.

More 'shiny' might be all it needs. Try copper if it's on your palette.

Far as I'm concerned that carries a lot of weight.

Hey, just realized you can click the medal or quill - see the story or poem title and follow the link to read it - very cool!
