    Essential Info? Commas Required?

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by dillseed, May 22, 2014.

One or two below? It seems as though 2 would be correct without the commas. 'The 17th' and 'the 23rd' are essential information; hence, no commas are needed, right?

    1. He'll be on vacation from Monday, the 17th, to Sunday, the 23rd.

    2. He'll be on vacation from Monday the 17th to Sunday the 23rd.

    Thank you. :)

    I prefer no commas.

Why? It doesn't look as if it belongs there. Looks weird.

He'll be on vacation from Monday the 17th, to Sunday the 23rd.

I wouldn't use a comma at all anywhere in the sentence.

It seems like a 'continuity interrupter.'
