I'm American, so it's almost a given that I find British accents the coolest. edit: Okay, I like Irish most, really.
Oh I'm Australian and yes BRITTISH My father is Scottish, Mother English, and my bf English. I believe the best brittish accent is Scottish.
HAHAHAHHAHAHHA!!!! My dad can put on his accent PERFECT!!! He recorded his ringtone as a message to himself saying that he was an agent and was needed for something.... Everyone thought he downloaded it from somewhere! He does have a great accent tho!!
why would that be a 'given' cicero?... i'm american and i certainly don't find a british accent to be the most appealing [if that's what you mean by 'cool']... i find french and italian accents to be the sexiest, irish and scots to be the cutest and australian probably the friendliest... british is to me, the most pretentious, if upper crust and if not, some of the most annoyingly graceless, along with some american ones, such as nooyawkese, redneck and texan...
I was just playing on the stereotype that all Americans love British accents. I, actually, like Irish accents most out of all accents. I just forgot to put it in my post, and haven't bothered to edit yet.
I find the Scots most appealing. Although, when my favorite Texas guy calls me Darlin', that is pretty nice, too. So unless Sir Sean rings me up to growl sweet nothings in my ear, my fiance is safe. RR
The problem with refering to 'the British accent' is that there are lots of them, my favourite being the Liverpudlian one , although people usually disagree with me. Favourite accent overall, I can't think just now. Everyone usually says Irish, but (no offense) I don't really like it - even though most English speakers outside the UK usually think i've got an irish accent :S I think my accent has become weaker, because when i traveled around Europe this summer people could actually understand what i was saying , as oppose to when i did it 4 years ago.
Lessa everyone has an accent When australians are talking to one another they do not think they have accents....but to us they do. Since we sound different to them then we have an accent. I do think that us canadians have the least exciting accent though haha even though I have a hard time understanding a lot of accents... I would choose Irish.
Canadians have accents, I have a guy that comes through my work and he's Canadian- But I like the Irish accents along with french, sometime Italian. Australian voices.. I'm half n half- and I'M and Aussie! I hate hearing Australian accents on tv, we sound wierd. But I like the rough as guts and bush accents of Australia. Every state sort of has a different accent. It's really wierd but like England with Yorkshire accents and Cockney, London Accents, so really, teh accents are varied. But I still like my accent hough. Makes me ME! Oh and I really HATE it when making movies and someone tries to put on a fake Australian accent! Very few can get it but I've never really seen a movie/tv show get it right!
I can't pick just one accent I'm afraid. They are all pretty awesome to be honest. But the Brittish and Irish would have to be two of my favourites I guess. And American
As someone previously stated, there are different sects of accents within every country and culture, but as far as the generic accent itself. Scottish and Russian accents appeal to me most. Russian is by far the most intimidating. Although, as lame as it sounds, I prefer the generic American accent the most...maybe because that's my accent.
Hearing an american accent on tv is heaps different to in real life. I like jeff foxworthy's, he's georgian. But I'd go with Irish too, Irish girls sound kinda hot.
YES! You got in before me, Eoz. South Africans have amazing accents. By far my favourite. If only I could put a good one on ... I'm very good with imitating accents. Americans are easy. The Boston drawl is fun to do. New York is distinctive, too. I didn't realise Canadians had a distinctive one, though - it just sounds like most of the States, excluding the aforementioned state/city and the Southern states. This is a great thread, Cicero.
Yes Canadians have accents. When we moved from southern ont. to northern ont. we were told we sounded like Yanks. Then when we visited southern ont. relatives we were told we sounded like the bloody french. Newfies (from newfoundland) sound like I think a cockney type english. Very hard to understand them for people not used to hearing it. French have their own dialect and accent depending on where in the country they come from. So it really isn't Canadian accent it is more region accent. I think that is the same for all countries unless you are really small.
True. I realised how stupid my statement was considering parts of Canada have french-speaking citizens.
