What the topic title says. What are some of your favorite genres to write, and some of your favorite styles of writing?

Epic fantasy (if I can get it complete) and the depressed/suicidal/murdering/romance novel. FTW.

I write a little bit of everything i don't stick to just one specific style or genre in my humble opinion sticking to just one certain genre or style of writing would be boring.

Yeah I agree. My work is comprised of several unfinished projects of various genres. My favorite type of writing is anything dark and suspenseful.

My favorite genres are science fiction, fantasy, and horror. I like first person style because listening to the character's thoughts and point of view feels right to me in the narrative. I can't handle third person because sometimes it sound confusing. But I can read almost anything.

fantasy in first person, but third person is just as good to me. I like good descriptions so i can picture everything, but then high emotion and some romance (relationship-wise not the adult content) thrown in also gets my attention very well.

I usually write science fiction (or speculative fiction) or alternate-history fantasy. I stay away from high fantasy - I'm not into magic, vampires, werewolves, or other supernatural creatures. Or I write ancient history.

Basically I write anything other than the here-and-now. Early 21st century America is too boring - I get enough of that every time I open my front door.

Mostly I write science fiction. But for shorter pieces I'll try just about any genre.

I'm a big Vonnegut fan so Social Satire fits me well.

I like writing comedy and horror (the kind where characters turn insane). Third person limited I use most often just because it feels more natural, but I'm starting to like first person.

I'm a sucker for emotionally-involving, well-researched wads of historical fiction - the kind that focuses on social history rather than important historical figures. I love CJ Sansom's Shardlake series, although I don't particularly enjoy 'mysteries' which are a large component of these books. Love lots of about the 'real' Old West - as opposed to the mythical badguy, blackhat type of Western - ranging from Old Yeller, to anything written by James Welch or AB Guthrie.

For short pieces I read and write from any genre. For long pieces, I enjoy dark fantasy, psychological topics and alternative-history fantasy. I can real something more emotion-oriented from time to time, but I dislike romance because it seems to overdone most of the time.

in my 'old life' i wrote almost everything other than schlocky romance... and tailored the 'style' to the needs of whatever i was writing...

now, as a practicing philosopher, i write essays and what i call 'philosetry'... and my only 'style' now is just plain 'me'...

("...well yes, I guess my genre is just you the reader here, and all this on-line correspondence between us too..." mentioned the goblin who didn't know how to write in any other way then, saying "...just such fun to write in posts anonymously isn't it, where others might not think that this is writing insulting you in that attitude and holding your forum readership in utter contempt as something not worthy on their pens perhaps, whereas me, I know that I depend on you entirely, though not to read me now, after all, what is readership anyway to someone who remain anonymous as I do, ah no, I depend on you for replyship, for it's what you reply to me that feeds me further...", in fact, the goblin guessed that reading on forums would increase with the ability of posters to entice readers to their pens, whereas the 3% that still read books was too small a percentage to interest him, and where if he was a writer of sorts, he had to be an on-line adaption to the forum goer today, well yes, that sort of writer then)

("...never heard of the genre then, are you an exponent of it, and are the reviews favorable too..." inquired the goblin somewhat attentively now)

Epic fantasy, supernatural fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, horror, romance. I like to write uplifting about hope and struggle, or stories about the compelling compassion of love and unity.

I write fantasy almost exclusively. I've written a high fantasy novel, and a lot of sword and sorcery short stories. I also write what I call 'Depression Fantasy' - which essentially characters in a fantasy setting handling elements of depression. They are normally very bleak though and involve suicide... I imagine PTSD was probably quite common back in the olden days so I'm currently researching that.

Epic Historical Fiction--I create a family and follow all the members and their exploits through about two or three generations. At least that's what I plan on writing, because my first attempt at tackling it is still in the VERY early stages accredited to typical writers block.

I guess it would be light science fiction I really enjoy Utopian/Dystopian future type stuff and I enjoy first person for both reading and writing, I have never tried to write anything in third person.

I like fantasy, and I guess that I'm a sucker for romance novels... even if I'm almost always disappointed by the latter, and have this sort of love/hate thing with it. Like, I want to tear it apart with my bare hands, but at the same time, I've read just as many of those as I have fantasy stories.

As for what I write... it's exclusively fantasy. I love building my own worlds, and I seem to write anything from low fantasy to... well, I'm not sure if it can be considered high fantasy if there are no elves, dwarves, dragons, etc. Pretty much just magic. I seem to be drawn to dark fantasy lately, though, so I'll give it a try. (Sorry if I'm not making sense...)

I write how I would see it, and most people say that my style is descriptive and dark.
