What does character driven mean to you?

    to me it means that the character shapes the plot vs the plot shaping the character. i don't necessarily like these two titles but a few that pop into my head are catcher in the rye, the entire plot is driven by haulfield's personal desires and whatever he feels like doing in that moment, whereas a book like, say, the hunger games, the plot happens to the main character, and she is forced to adapt her character to the plot rather than her character deciding where the plot goes. ultimately i think it's realistic fiction that is the most character driven.
