okay so i have this mysterious protagonist, he doesn't remember his past and nobody remembers him what do i call him????
Use a characteristic, in addition to the basic "he" and "him". Examples would be things such as a crooked nose, a specific eye color, maybe he has a limp or there's something about his voice or his hair cut. Good luck!
i love that name but the only problem is that a story very similar to mine has already made use of that name!
I guess at some point, if he's going to interact with others, people (=other characters) will come up with a nickname for him?
There could be something very distinctive about his appearance or mannerisms or how he was found or where that gives him a name? If he's associated with a certain location, like "Broadway", then people could call him that. He could give himself a name based on something arbitrary or personal.
Your protagonist could base his name on a word he sees on a poster. I think Kermit the Frog did something similar when he had amnesia in "Muppets Take Manhattan".
Those are ball good ideas, I'll see what I can come up with you know, that might not be a very bad idea, maybe????? ill have to think on that!
Nobody/No-One would be an interesting moniker, only for the right sort of person though. Anonymous? He could tell someone he's "just some guy" and they could nickname him Just Some Guy. Or maybe he's Blondie. Or Baby-Face. The Tall Man? So many options!!!!
Personally, I'd go with John Smith. Sounds a bit better with a proper surname. Not that I have anything against "Doe."
Maybe it doesn't have to be one name. What if each character called him something different that represented his connection or relationship with them? Think about Sawyer from LOST, if you get the reference.
