Hello Writing In Secret, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

Your name begs the question: Why the secrecy?

Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Thank you for the welcoming. I suppose I chose the name "writing in secret" because it seems I am always trying to steal away some time to write and fulfill my secret desire to put thoughts on paper. I've been on the site before under a different name and, after a long absence, am back. I've much much here before and submitted a few items for review. Love the forum, love the people here and the help provided.

If you have a previous account, make sure you contact one of the moderators or the site owner to kill the old account. Only one active account is allowed, and doing this will prevent misunderstandings.

Thanks for the info Cogito. I made sure my old account was deleted before getting this one. In fact, My old account was no longer available because it had been so long since I last signed on so I had to create a new one.

Thanks to all who welcomed me here. I do find the help, advice, and opinions here helpful and educational - and just a shred of hope to all you folks out there like me just plugging along and writing through passion - there is hope for you. Although I probably do not write as much or as often as I should (or would like) I was encouraged when one of my poems was picked up for publication last year! I normally find myself writing poetry when emotion dictates but normally enjoy writing SF, mystery, and even romance and erotic romance. Yeah, I know, weird for a guy but that's what pleases me and I'm sticking to it.
