My sister called her unborn baby "Peanut" while she was pregnant. It was pretty cute. My favourites... Here are some from my Wordnik list: smut, idolatrous, sapphic, nape, zen, kiss, spifflicated, punk, exquisite, quincunx, impertinent, lurid, acrid, absurd, neophyte, gambit, dactyl. There're lots of swear words that I'm absolutely love (and some I think are rubbish), and I wish more people appreciated the way they sound and the ways they can be used.
I've always like self-gratification (some may say its two words jointed with a hyphen so it doesn't count, so if thats the case I'll add obtuse as my favourite)
Superfluous. But I never get to use it, its just too hard to slip it into everyday conversation. Unless the telly's on while you're writing this and there's an American show on. 'I notice there's no superfluous body hair on the chip and dale dancers appearing on this medical show.' Are chip and dale dancers vital to our heath? Maybe I should have one gyrating in my lounge room while I write. It certainly couldn't hurt.
I just discovered, via an alert and helpful beta reader, that I used the word "scrabbling" in my novel 11 times! Unfortunately, several of those usages were in clusters, appearing in only a few chapters. Yikes. Thank goodness for the 'seek and destroy" facility in my iPages programme! Scrabbling now makes only 3 appearances, and these are spaced evenly throughout. Lovely beta reader! (You're a forum member, and you know who you are!)
Procrastination. Covers a multitude of excuses... It just sort of rolls off the tongue My bad overused word is "just" LB
Gotta love that word! Slot though not in it's traditional meaning. The British Army slang...Also pretty much any other bit of British Army slang!
I like melancholy! Something very melancholy about the word itself. That and maniacal... both featured highly in my writings!
There's so many, but here's a list of a few that just sound good on my ears: emulsion vivacious exalted intrinsic paradox alkali osmosis catalyst I have a love for science and, looking at this list, I think it shows.
Fluorescent. It always sounds like the ocean. Also, I have been taking science classes almost as recreation for my whole life, and yet until I started watching British telly, it genuinely never occurred to me that I had been pronouncing Aluminium so incorrectly.
There are many. A few include voluptuous, travesty, violet, lackadaisical, shiver, rustle, and I'm sure more will come to mind... I tend to like lackadaisical the best because that is what I often am, and it just sounds quirky (there's another one) I also greatly enjoy saying, "that is an utter travesty!"
alloy bongo chizzy = awesome loofa confoozled = confused and puzzled at the same time Bora bora = place in Polynesia fandango avatar fudge
I use the word literally a lot during conversations. I don't know exactly why I like it so much, but I can use it when I exaggerate, when I'm just horsing around and of course, when i'm just being serious.
